Literally give me one reason why everyone that hoards physical media isn't a total fucking moron.

99% of the time, what you think is a bricked hard drive retains all the data that was on it before the bricking.

But, hey, if you're knowledge of computers doesn't extend past itunes, I guess something like having your entire collection on a single device that is compatible with any display and plays your movies as well would seem daunting.

Instead of using that NSA data collection center in Utah to store all your emails, they should put all the world's knowledge and films into a digital database accessible to all.

That is both a more efficient and beneficial use of this technology.

Why do people collect stamps? Why do people collect figurines? Why do people collect art?

You can have every image ever made stored on a few bricks, yet people still use up wall space for paintings and shit. Life's a mystery.
>>
>>63711527
That's kinda what I'm asking here.

Why are you asking the same questions as I am and then saying TIS A MYSTERY!!
>>
>>63711527
If you don't use the wall space for paintings then it's an empty wall. Paintings are there for feng-shui purposes. You don't want your living space to look dull do you? It's not like you were using that wall for anything else so you might as well hang a painting so it looks nice.
>>
Because Iike my stuff displayed instead of hidden in a hard drive that will probably crash.
>>
>>63711585
It's simple; people like different shit. That's all there is to it. There's no great explanation for it.

Some people like capeshit, some don't. Some like rom-coms, others do not. Some people like being pegged and whipped. Some people like Carrot Top. There's no deeper meaning to be analysed that will suddenly make you say, "Oh, now I get it!" People just like what they like, you fucking autist.
>>
>>63711527
Right now people collect stamps because they think they'll be worth something someday.

People collect figurines and art because they have aesthetic value.

He's right though, if people enjoy something they'll be drawn to it, and then collect it. Why collect books when chances are you'll only read them once? They take up a lot of space as is, so why not use a tablet? Why collect stamps? Their only value is being used on a package, anything else.

Just because someone likes a hobby, doesn't mean you cant force them not to. If you hate films so much, don't come to /tv/.

Collecting stuff can be cool. I can't read books digitally, so I have tons of books. I only have digital music/films though. I do like the collections that some of my friends have. One dude has a ton of records, and I think it's neat to look at the artwork on the album, to look at the liner notes, etc. There's just kind of a feel to it, especially with some of the more production-intensive vinyl packaging out there.

Allow me to explain this to you slowly.

An excuse is a reason given to justify a fault or offence. That's the actual definition.

There is no possible way you can misunderstand this time. Please explain.

I'm thinking more in the sense as you're using the "because I just do" excuse to absolve yourself of any need/responsibility/duty to actually explain or examine your actions.

I'm not making any judgement here. OP was, but OP is either gone or shifted gears.
>>
>>63712666

>>
>>63712176

>absolve yourself of any need/responsibility/duty to actually explain or examine your actions

And my question to you, autismo, is what need/responsibility/duty I have to actually explain my actions to you.
>>
>>63712695
The responsibility you're avoiding is the one to explain or examine your behavior. There is no fault in the behavior, but the lengths you're going to avoid any sort of examination of said behavior could be argued to be a fault or personal failing.
>>

people collecting things isn't collector culture. Collector culture is a completely circular wank where people collect things specifically because other people think they're valuable, then sell to those people, who them sell to other people, until the item has no value.
