I think the biggest problem is that a lot of Dune's appeal come from the mind games conveyed by the heavy internal dialogue. It would be cheesy to have a voice over for this. It could be done via body language with talented actors, but I doubt anyone would treat Dune as high-grade material. Lynch's was the closest it was going to get to that. Any modern attempts to film it would inevitable become commercially successful action shit that would offend Muslims.
