Oh just saw them. Haven't seen any. Have tarr's 3 films on hold; satatango, Turin horse and wreckmiester. Which one should I watch first?
>>
>>63702592
definitely not turin lol, i started with that and i really think satantango is the best place to start or a man from london. i'd say turin is his least 'accessible' film if i can put it that way

I'd recommend Happy Together instead since I think it's the better film
>>
>>63703308
your 3x3 was mine about 3 years ago so you've got a long way, just look through directors and you will find other directors/movements/era's you like and then just pick and choose what interests you.

in the mood is on of his best, my fav of his is happy together. in the mood is a good place to start for his films

a matter of life is in my top 5 so highly recommend, go through as much of powells filmography as you can.

i'd recommend you watching some more european films and probably the hollywood new era

oh and because these threads are about getting more people into film

>A Short Film About Killing, Kieslowsky
>Red Desert, Antonioni (better than l'eclisse imo)
>Karami-Ai, Kobayashi (certainly not his most impressive work, but an incredible film regardless)

>Elevator to the Gallows, Malle (a little goofier than au revoir les enfants but more visually rewarding i think)
>Menace II Society, hughes brothers (storytelling at its best, beautiful use of color, but poorly written characters and at sometimes bad dialogue)
>Eden and After, Alain Robbe-Grillet ( Robbe-Grillet's first full length film as a director, really pays off, worth for cinematography alone)

>Alice in the cities, Wim Wenders (fucking hate the aspect ratio but the film is beautiful and his best work imo)
>spirit of the beehive, Victor Erice (superb cinematography and excellent portrayals of innocence and curiosity, also a very good complain at the country's state (civil war))
>the seventh continent, Haneke (i think his first film, very dark tone, won't say much without spoiling it)

Check out the TSPDT list and don't become one of those retards who thinks anything critically acclaimed is too mainstream. Just look at the absolute caricatures of human beings in here who watch irrelevant obscure garbage for the sake of obscurity.

Larrain

Early bartas. Start with Three days and few of us then corridor and freedom. His films are like Rivette in slow motion

Any contemporary directors I should watch?

I think I just found my new favorite film. It's called Цёмны pыцap: Aдpaджэннe by Belarusian filmmaker Кpыcтaфep Hoлaн. It was shot entirely on a Sony handicam donated to his village in the late nineties. He screened the film to only twelve of his closest family and friends, and afterwards he had the projectionist, and the donkey that transported the group by cart to the theater executed. Later that winter his wife and only child died from the cold, and he attempted to fashion a waistcoat and slippers from their bodies, but he ended up dying later that month from exposure. It was the only film he ever made.
>>
>>63708301
and how the fuck did you get a hold of it?

>all these black and white movies with horrible acting and cinematography

That's how you spot hipsters.

I didn't. I'll never see it. Neither will anyone else. Therefore it will never be anything other than what I imagine it to be.

It is truly the perfect film.
