How will the sequel trilogy be compared to the OT once it's done and the dust has settled?
Disney is going to play it safe, so it'll be looked at as more consistent in quality than the OT but with less substance.
I'm sure I'll prefer it over the Prequels but at least Lucas took a few extra strides.

I don't have any particular attachment to Lucas, but when I think of the new Star Wars, it's like "this is Abrams' idea for a Star Wars sequel," not "this is THE Star Wars sequel."
There's just something about it. I know it's no different from everything in the EU, but it just feels more artifical knowing that they brought in some guy a few years ago, and these are his ideas.
It makes it feel less rooted in the history and mythology of the series, somehow. It's just some guy and the stuff he came up with.

The prequels weren't that good, but Lucas wanted to tell Anakin's story, he didn't do a good job, got sidetracked by CGI tech, but his heart was in the work. He at least funded The Clone Wars which redeems a ton of prequel stuff.
With the new trilogy, JJ is just a tool for Disney to use. He's a one and done thing, he's just there to make Star Wars, not tell a story

Well more specifically, Episode VI has the same plot as Episode IV. It also has the effect of making Episode IV seem largely pointless. What's the point of blowing up the Death Star if they just make a bigger better one again?
Not to mention, it requires some ridiculous contrivance like the shield generator being placed on a nearby planet rather than within the station itself.
And not to mention how the core concept of Star Wars was to intentionally copy 1000s of previous fables about farmboys becoming princess-saving heroes with the help of a wise old mentor. And how it was just The Hidden Fortress... in space!
