I'd love to be proven wrong and get a classic Star Wars film. But is there a shred of evidence to suggest it will be a classic?
The trailer? There were some neat shots, but lots of shitty films had exciting trailers. Phantom Menace immediately springs to mind.
The writers? JJ has never written a truly great script. I'd argue the closest he came was the breddy gud script for "Regarding Henry", but that was flukey and happened decades ago.
Kasdan wrote two classic films, Empire and Raiders, but he's been in deep freeze (or a Big Chill, as it were) for decades. The last project he worked on was a Diane Keaton weepy flop called "Darling Companion".
The director? Again, JJ has done nothing new, inventive, or enduring in his career. His films have a fun pace and lots of kinetic energy, but they're merely above average for an action director. He doesn't seem to have the genius eye of Spielberg or the imagination of young Lucas.
All in all, you're basing your prediction on nothing more than hope. Which is okay I guess, because I'm hoping too... But I don't expect anything other than a nostalgic, fast-paced romp through the Star Wars universe.
If you're hoping for the magic discovery of A New Hope or the spiritual depth of Empire, I'm afraid you're likely to be disappointed.
Just go in hoping for fun, which is what I'm hoping we get after the dreary death march that was the prequel era.

The problem is that when you're surrounded by people who just say yes to your every whim, there's no way to actually gauge the quality of your product. Lucas's failing was being a lazy, arrogant fuck instead of just being an idea guy that bounced ideas off of others around him to make interesting films, since the idea of the clone wars, the growing corruption of the republic, and anakin's rise to glory and subsequent fall as a jedi knight resulting from a twisting of his own ideals and desire to save the ones he cares about are neat concepts that should work.
The problem is that Lucas had no one to say "perhaps 20 minutes of podracing, 40 minutes of superfluous jar jar bullshit, half a movie of forced romance, and no actual development for any of the villains as characters (outside of sheev's always wonderful manipulation) isn't a good idea." A lot of the problems come down to good ideas just showing up and never really being expanded on in a meaningful way, while we get saddled with filler shit.

It'd be a somewhat tragic ending, to be sure; Vader lost his wife, his friend and mentor, and was horribly maimed, and he has fallen to evil. The Jedi are dead or scattered. The Empire is arisen. But the children survive, and they offer hope that the dark times will not last forever. You may wonder what happens in the future, but it's not leaving plot threads unresolved.
I'm curious if any movie/book/whatever has actually ended like this. Even in tragedies, there's some sense of satisfaction; Hamlet avenged his father, Macbeth got what was coming to him, the Sharks and Jets make peace, etc. Sith isn't... well it is a bit more open-ended than that. Has anything else ended that way?

Cameos aren't really "copy and paste", the main character were distinctly different (ie dearth maul). The clones had to look similar to storm troopers, but jango I'll definitely give you (and many of the cameos were pointless)

RotJ is easily the worst of the original trilogy and in retrospect should have been all the warning we needed that any further star wars films would suck, but I wouldn't call it outright bad.
This movie was too anticipated, people were asking too much from it.

Yeas, the expectitions were set really high, and rightly so, because ideally this new Star Wars movie should have been something new, brave and original and high quality that lives up to this predecessors' fame that restarts the Star Wars franchise, to show Hollywood is still capable of nailing it. A good example how it should have been done would be the new Mad Max movie, it was awesome, old and new elements combined, I'm not going to adress to whole /pol/kek thing and whether it had an agenda or not, let's just say the movie was good and enjoyable, resembling the original Mad Max movies, reviving the tone of those movies perfectly while staying fresh and adding novelty to the Mad Max universe, awesome, well written characters, nice plot, nice acting and mindblowing action scenes, everything about the movie basically was right and good.
Now the matter with Disney is that judging by what is known at this point, they were just going for the safety play to pick up that mad odsh, knowing the brainwashed fanboys will watch it anyway as long as they don't get Lucas-tier bullshit, because pulling that off twice was considered risky even by poor Holywood standards. JJ just rehashed the original trilogy, basicly copypasting the plot from the New Hope, making an unimaginative, bland, souless and forgettable movie. Therefore, /tv/ has every right to be pissed, sad, cynical, sarcastic, mad or whatever because this movie will be a big disappointment artistically no matter what, even if it will cash like a motherfucker.
