>It's a horror movie where the main character is a woman.
>It's a horror movie where the only survivor is a woman.
This was revolutionary 35 years ago.
It's just annoying today.
Why are horror movie producers obsessed with moralizing, instead of creating genuine horror?
>Boileau said that Kings, Gods and Heroes only were fit subjects for literature. The writer can only write about what he admires. Present-day kings aren’t very inspiring, the gods are on a vacation and about the only heroes left are the scientists and the poor … And since our race admires gallantry, the writer will deal with it where he finds it. He finds it in the struggling poor now.”
-John Steinbeck
Just add women and disabled to the list
Poor
Woman
Disabled
Scientist
Those are the only acceptable heroes in modern society.

But I always thought of it as a ploy to gain audience sympathy for a "virgin" character.
>>63689666
The final girl cliche isn't about activism. We are more willing to empathize with a woman who is scared than a man. Sympathetic male characters need to be heroic from the start, not to be terrified for most of the movie before finally taking the initiative, which is what the main character in a horror movie typically does.

>51% of world population is women
>most main characters in fiction are disproportionately man for almost all of human existence
>waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE'S A WOMAN IN THIS AND SHE ISN'T SUCKING A COCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there's a reason this is a containment site for your kind
>>63690057
And in the Western world that 51% of the population enjoys sheltered lives and virtually zero of the dangerous or dirty responsibilities and has a higher standard of living in virtually every category.
The stronk womyn meme rings false because it's utterly untrue when compared to society where women have their entire lives on easy mode. Women can't hit the standard? Lower the standard. Women can't lose weight? Fat acceptance, shitlord!
People would love stories about women but frankly a story about an obese woman with a desk job that has 3 guys on tinder messaging to fuck her is a boring goddamn movie.
>>63689982
Don't you think there's a problem with that?
only women are dumb enough to act in the fashion necessary for a horror movie to not be over in ten minutes.
>>63691683
That's not fair, though.
A lot of horror movies(especially Slasher fics), have a varied cast. But it's invariably a woman who comes out on top.
Sometimes a guy and a girl, but very rarely is it just a guy.
Don't you get it OP? The real horror is that women are taking over. The real horror is that a women survives and not a man that's the real horror
>>63691738
You're defeating your own argument. Large, varied cast to ensure all have as little involvement with the narrative as possible so as to reduce the chance of one character being a threat to the narrative.
Besides, its a joke. Horror is absolutely and intractably predicated on people being stupid.
Hey /tv/
What's a good "last man on earth" movie? I've been meaning to watch a few but have no clue where to start.
Thanks for responding if you do.

Women aren't heroic except when they escape abusive relationships.
>>63691833
But if that was the case, than surely we'd see more varied survivors at that the end of a movie?
When it's the same type of person making it to the end of a movie over and over again, it kills suspense.
Ripley making it to the end of Alien is wildly subversive.
Final Girl #1083 is just by-the-book and boring.
>horror with all male cast
>considered a classic
>>63692929
>meme movie, will be straight to video
>>63690418
Why is it that "shitlord" is the standard bitchy SJW insult? Seems rather specific.
>>63691869
>split tongue
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>63692959
They're so ugly.
>>63693008
It was carefully devised so as not to actually offend anyone
>>63693085
Would do the one on the right desu senpai
>>63693008
Because they're deathly afraid of offending people based upon their holy trinity of sex, race, and gender. Unless of course you're a white man.
I usually just use it as a way to mock them.
>>63690714
A problem with which part exactly?
(Btw, I meant we are more willing to empathize with a woman who is scared than with a man who is scared.)
>>63690418
Compared to men who get chased around by serial killers and werewolves on a regular basis?
If anything it's sexist since people are less scared for a man in peril because they'd assume he can protect himself better.
Horror protagonists have always been women. That's not a feminist move. That's just how it is.
On some level it's probably women are physically weaker so there is a stronger sense of danger. Also, I think people are less willing to accept a male character who constantly runs away from the monster. They want them to stand and fight.

>Horror protagonists have always been women. That's not a feminist move. That's just how it is.
But that's just not true.
