The new movies are giant action spectacles which I'm not necessarily against. But that episode I just watched was more calculated and I actually liked the morality involved. It provides limitation in what they do or at the very least adds consequences even if it's just their guilty consciences. Makes you think a bit.

TOS always had heavy moral themes and lessons to be learned. TNG was more comfy, but still had some of the same themes. Though, you can see that the people in TNG already have protocols and methods of preventing the types of things in TOS yet they can still end up in some similar situations.
