This. Varys and Littlefinger both need to be executed as quickly and swiftly as possible because they're both plotting against you, and are far more dangerous than Cersei.
Beyond that, keep Robert safe and make politically savvy moves and the realm would be fine as long as you get Cersei and her children out of the picture, having them exiled or something.
You could possibly even get Jaime on your side if you appoint Tyrion to a council position with promises of Casterly Rock.

Several things.
First, bring far more men down south with me than just fifty. Second; expose Janos Slynt with corruption - put loyal Northmen in charge of the city watch.
Third; invite LF round for a sneaky talk and stab him 162 times in the dick. Replace him as master of coin with another loyal northmen.
Fourth; shunt Varys out of the capital. Burn down the tower of the hand so that he can't sneak back in.
Fifth; make overtures to Stannis and get him to come back and support you.
Sixth; straighten Renly out (not literally) about how stupid his plans to become King are.
Seventh; tell Robert about the incest AT THE SAME TIME as you arrest Cersei, Joffrey and Jaime. That way your men control the children, so Robert can't just murder them all in a rage, but Cersei is screwed and so is Tywin with all of his family in your control.
Ned's big mistake was never using the power he had been given. He always acted like an advisor to Robert, but Tyrion proves that the hand of the King is a powerful motherfucker in his own right. I would use that power as much as I was able.

You are thinking of Show Varys, which is a character that doesn't make any kind of sense.
Book Varys was planning the same thing Littlefinger was planning, but attempting to seat somebody else and presumably killing less people.
Note that both versions of Varys KNOW about the Lannister incest, the Tyrells manipulating Renly and Littlefinger setting up the Starks against the Lannisters (presumably meaning that he also knows that Littlefinger poisoned Jon Arryn). Yet, Varys does NOTHING, to stop it or bring these schemes to Light. This makes no sense within the context of a character who genuinely looks out for the good of the realm.
And hell, why would Varys actually care about the good of Westeros at all? He is a foreigner and has no friends in King's Landing.

Doran Martell doesn’t know this, as this hasn’t happened yet and once you (i.e. Eddard Stark, the Hand of the King) lays out his entire secret plan before him, Doran will know he’s fucked and will take the offer of marrying Arya to Trystane (plus Gregor’s head).

The books are pretty vague on when events happen in relation to other events but Robert didn’t order the assassination of Daenerys until after Eddard was in Kingslanding and had been Hand of the King for X amount of time.
In this alternative timeline, Eddard knows Robert will want to assassinate Daenerys and he can “head him off at the pass” and talk him out of it, pointing out that they’ll need dragons to fight the Others who are on the move, etc. and so on.

The murder attempt on Daenerys is specifically triggered by her marrriage to Drogo, which happened after Ned became Hand.
The murder attempt is what caused Drogo to hurry his plans of going to Westeros, and that caused Daenerys to be present at the time Mirri's village got sacked.
If Mirri doesn't join Daenerys, Drogo (and maybe Rhaego) don't die and Dany doesn't walk into any fires with her dragon eggs while the Red Comet flies above her.
There is no possible scenario where Dragons exist and Dany doesn't intend to murder the Usurper and his dog, Ned Stark.

First one is the best, but really any way that Ned could have survived or kept his family from harm would be in breaking with his principles.
That's the entire point, the only choice he had was whether or not he would stick to his principles or not. Robert dying wasn't even a turning point, it was all inevitable one he began learning the truth.
