Currently rewatching, it's pretty decent. Not sure why I loved it so much as a kid though.
The characters are a really good mix of flashy stereotypes and real people with good banter.

Entry level is often misused but I'd mostly just see it as a label for something that's mainstream and easily digestible. It doesn't go for unconventional storytelling or artsy visuals like for example Lain does. inb4 someone calls Lain entry level arthouse

Not really. It takes a while to really get into it, the first episode is just average.
By the end of Session 5 you will know if you want to finish it or not. Session 5 is the one where it shows a little more of it's true self.
I'd watch on BluRay though, the streams online are pretty terrible.
So if you can sit down and watch 5 episodes, you'll know. It's a good show with good characters, good themes, a good soundtrack, and a good ending. It's not the kind of show that will "blow your mind" but it is the kind that gets better over time if you re-watch it. Also, there's a movie and it's pretty great as well.
