Newfag here. If every Star Wars prequel has been a bunch of CGI dog shit and everyone says how horrible they have been, why is the world creaming themselves over The Force Awakens?

And has the level of hype for TFA been the same as it was for every prequel release?
>>
The first Prequel was the only one with an insane level of hype, for good reason. The other two had a much diminished hype train.
Visually, the Prequel designs for ships and settings clash pretty bad with the Originals.
TFA is a return to the classic aesthetic, with a return of beloved characters from the OT and lots of practical effects.

Because they keep marketing how much practical effects they're using as some assurance that they're avoiding George's mistakes even though the prequels had more miniatures and animatronics in an individual release then the entire original trilogy combined and two of TFA's key characters will be mo-capped.

While there's CG and green-screen out the ass in the prequels, especially with droids, clones and aliens that were harder to do as masks/puppets, it's more of a patchwork of different elements. It was much faster and more cost-effective at the time to create various alien vistas the old fashioned way with miniatures and digital matte paintings and composite it all together digitally.

Because people are dumb sheep

Many people feel that George Lucas was the reason the prequels weren't good, and he's not very involved with the new film.

New film is helmed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Disney. Abrams is competent, and his reboot of Star Trek - while no masterpiece - was watchable and enjoyable. Disney won't let anything go out the door that isn't extremely high quality.

So, the signs point towards the reboot being closer to what made the original Star Wars so fun -- swashbuckling action, character we can root for -- and not the stuff everybody hated about the prequels -- the cold characters, the intricate political plots.

The Disney marketing department makes it seem like young people are into star wars yet the reality is they have no idea what it even is and they definitely dont watch the originals after all this time.

Because the hype has literally nothing to do with the quality of the movies. Star Wars is such a big icon people get excited for it just because it's Star Wars. That's it really, the is and always has been out of proportion.
