Jack was a sadistic troll that killed people in the name of his avant garde art, masturbated to dead war victims and got off on scarring disfiguring/mutilating beautiful women. Jack targeted people's vanity and wanted to make Gotham as ugly as he was physically/externally.
Heath was a philosophical anarchist that killed people in the name of chaos. Moral quandaries, putting people in situations that where they would betray their morals/ideals was his thing. Heath targeted people's morality and wanted to make Gotham as ugly as he was mentally/internally.

First scene is the Joker.
Look at the effort he put into his production value for his video, listen to that jingle. I laugh at the thought that he's sitting in a studio with his hencmen filming him. The stuffed seaguls, the cardboard cut outs of the dead super models he poisoned. It's really well done. He's like the salesperson from hell. Look at the fear in that hostage's eyes that tied up with all the products around him. Joker captured him just to make a commercial.
Second one is modern, edgy crap. Ledger is a try hard. That's why people eat his shit up. Oh wow, the video cuts off at the end!!! He got spooky and killed a guy!!! His Joker was a faggot. People are obsessed with the performance because the actor died, just like Brandon Lee in the 90s.
>>63602524
Exactly.
It's not like he's been in anything recently. What a loser.
>>63602702
There were other scenes with Jack's Joker that didn't make it to film that would've made him look even better:
One scene was him holding a board meeting of sorts and the camera turns to the people he's talking to and they all have grins on their faces.
The other was Joker shooting down a helicopter with a rocket launcher.
Kind of wish those had been filmed.
>>63601557
Those are chumps
Nicholson was typecast like crazy.
I still wonder what would've happened if Robin Williams got cast in the Shining instead.
>>63602778
Yeah, then during the parade there was going to be a statue unveiling (for the founder of Gotham because of the 200th anniversary) and once the curtain came down it would be a Joker statue in it's place. Pic related. All that money that he gives to the people in the crowd was originally meant to have his face all over it. "My face on the one dollar bill".
Lots of that stuff had to get taken out due to the tight production schedule and budget. Crazy how much they accomplished in just a short shooting schedule over in London.
>>63602914
Forgot the pic. Would have been cool to see, I know some restaurants in Hollywood have a miniaturized/recast version of it in the lobbies. Pity it didn't make it on screen.

>>63602511
>killed people in the name of his avant garde art
I always understood this to be his theme of the day for that scene (since he was raiding an art museum and trying to appeal to Vicki,) and not actually a factor in his motivation. Like, if Burton hadn't made Sam Hamm amp up the revenge bullshit and kill him off at the end, he may have had some other ridiculous theme in the sequel.

Le contrarian face
Le overuse of the word edgy XDD
>>63604872
Yeah that's true, with the Joker who knows what the next thing would have been.
Still, I do think the art thing was one of his philosophies. He really did get off on death and viewed it as some sort of twisted art. Remember that collage he's putting together of all those war and mustard gas victims. He actually looks like he gets off on all of it. What's the only photo he likes in Vicki's portfolio? The corpses from a third world country.
If he had lived, might have been cool to have seen the Joker fish or something.
>>63604908
It wasn't bad. He was fun to watch. But so was Dafoe making an ass of himself n front of a mirror.
Ledger didn't handle the role poorly, but I really can't stand everyone acting like he was miles ahead of everyone else by prancing around and doing a cartoon voice, the same everyone else has and everyone else will.
>>63601557
I like both for different reasons. I know they have their hardcore fan bases, but I see them both equally.
If you could somehow merge both versions, I think it'd be the perfect Joker. Also, I'm not looking forward to Leto at all. Give me Nicholson or Ledger any day.
>>63601557
>>63605070
I think this dissing of Heat Legend's excellent performance is simply contrarianism. He wasn't trying to do the Joker everyone else had done. He was doing Nolan's Joker, and I think was absolutely fantastic. That scene where he videotapes fat Fake Batman and is repeating "look at me... look at me... LOOK AT ME". Made my hairs stand up.
>>63603228
This. I never believed that because it's pretty clear he read the comics (even if he didn't grow up reading them or whatever) and it feels pretty close to the source material, even with some modifications like the Joker identity
>>63601557
>comparing actor's performances
>forget the characters are written differently
Same thing with the Tugboat and Garfield debate. They didn't have the same characters/script to act from. I'm not saying it's impossible to compare, but you do have to factor that in.
>>63605090
>Also, I'm not looking forward to Leto at all.
Honestly, I still kind of am. Not crazy about the tattoos, but what we've seen of the trailers make him look like a joy-riding, homicidal maniac. I'm really hoping they run with that, just make him a complete scumbag out for a good time, and don't try to force the "agent of chaos" bullshit again.
As someone that's visiting from /g/, you guys really think Batman 1989 is better than The Dark Knight?
Fucking lol this bored really does have shitty contrarian taste. And that's coming from someone born in 79 and saw burtons movie as a kid.
>>63601557
I liked the scene where Nicholson talks to the dead body after cooking the guy, killing him. I liked the scene where Ledger is disguised as a nurse with the outfit and wig at the hospital.
Both of them did a great job playing their respective Joker roles.

>>63606068
I think the Dark Knight is slightly better than Batman 1989 personally. I like the story and Ledger a little more.
Still,
Ledger > Nicholson
Keaton > Bale
TDK script > '89 script
Danny Elfman > Hans Zimmer
'89 art direction > TDK art direction
Batmobile > Tumbler
TDK Gordon > '89 Gordon
If we're going for the look and style of the movies, I'd go with Burton. If we're going for story telling and themes, I'd go with Nolan. Both of them are the best of the 7 and the most re watchable.
>>63606151
>Patrician opinion
I don't even know what that is
neither one was very reliable to the source material but they both had a great laugh
nolan's shit philosophical writing made the second movie and especially third unbearable upon repeat viewings
>>63605171
The performance is good. That isn't the problem. The problem is that its overrated. People have been playing the hammy villain for years and pulling it off. Ledger is in with the best of them, but it didn't warrant an Oscar, nor did it stand on its own enough as some kind of peerless diamond of a performance.
>>63606242
Both are great but it's clear that TDK is ultimately the better movie and story. 89 has same elements that are better though no doubt.
>>63606068

Best looking Batman film to date. Also has this fucking scene.
Bitch should have gotten an Oscar for that performance.
Heath Ledger was a bad actor.
The way he licked his lips and chewed at the insides of his mouth wasn't acting, it was him being overly conscious of the fake scars glued to his face.
It ruined suspension of disbelief. It was so obvious he was just a guy who was irritated by the shit stuck to the sides of his mouth.
Tommy Flanagan doesn't fidget with his scars like Heath fidgeted with his makeup. People with real scars don't do that.
>>63604656
Except he's miserable and alone and living his final years in depression...
> He has a reputation as something of a womaniser but Jack Nicholson has admitted he is now lonely and is facing dying alone.
>The actor said that he still has a "yearning" to be with somebody but believes his chances are "not very realistic".
>The 77-year-old lamented how he cannot chat up women in public any more and that they no longer trust him because of his reputation as "Jack the Jumper".
>>63606722
Oh wow an award he didn't deserve given to him because he died and a nomination he didn't deserve given to him because it was SO PROGRESSIVE.
Watch The Dark Knight again and see him fidget with his makeup. It's not a performance at all.
He has false silicone scars glued to the sides of his mouth and he can't ignore them or pretend they are real scars because he's a bad actor.
>>63606733
>You either die a junkie, or you live long enough to see yourself become the grandpa.

>>63607073
You see the joker is the kind of person that would fidget with them. Because, you know, he's batshit crazy and sadistic.
Nicholson had prosthetics as well and never licked his face like a faggot.
For something that was meant as a "tick", Ledger sure did over do it. Then again, he was probably fully aware he was in capeshit and figured subtlety was never an option.

It fits the character just fine. I never saw an actor messing with his prosthetic-- just a nervous tick for a semi-nervous portrayal of a character. This is what happens when a good movie becomes a sensation for whatever reason (in the case the reason being Heath giving his best performance just before dying). It gets over analyzed to the point where people forgot what made it enjoyable in the first place.
Good story bout Jack joker:
Every day when jack turned up for makeup, the lead make up artist would comment how he didn't need to put jack's prosthetic joker grin on, because he was doing SO MUCH COCAINE that he already had a grin a mile wide at 5am when he turned up for makeup.
