I'm going to hang out with my friends later today so we can all watch them for the first time together before the new one comes out Friday.

Because you het the foundation and entry to the Star Wars universe in the OT, and then you get added context and background info from the Prequels, and then you have all that information come together when the OT is watched again.

The originals are timeless family sci-fi adventures with lovable leads that have arcs, classic set pieces and atmosphere, many memorable moments etc. etc.
The prequels are soulless CGI cash-ins with utterly terrible dialogue, illogical stories and horribly boring character interaction.
People argue that others only hate the prequels because of the RLM reviews, when in fact all RLM did was take 4 1/2 hours to tell anyone with half a brain what they already knew. The prequels are BAD. There's a reason that a lot of people hate them so much.
