What are the reviews on this commie film?

A modern masterpiece

/tv/ has never loved Terry. Reddit, however, has an entire subreddit devoted to him, so maybe that's more your style.

>>
>>63600089

You're correct about it being the neighbour's house. But nonetheless the film certainly presented a story of sexual discovery.

I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that the boy's developing sexuality is tied into his relationship with his mother. It doesn't have to be sick.

In fact, your absolute dismissal of an oedipal interpretation suggests that you're projecting this 'sick shit' as much as the next person.

Pairing a son and his mother in a story of sexual awakening repulses you because your ding-dong feels confused by it.

Reducing an oedipus complex to an incest fantasy is dumb.

Wanting to fuck his mother, and the basic psychological structure of desire being connected to his mother should not be conflated.

>>
>>63600575

Fucking hell, really?

The film constantly places the son and mother in union in a way that suggests the boy's relationship to his mother is implicated in the way he sees everything else.

If you need a more hamfistedly obvious scene, what about when he pushes his father away and shouts something to the effect that "she only loves me!"

I'm not saying this is what the whole film is about, but it's a central idea.

B R A V O T E R R Y

>>63600950

good point, let's follow up on that.

Is it not also possible that sexuality is connected to the non-incestuous love between a son and his mother?

We have to get a grip on what Freud was actually saying to understand this. Having a conscious, mentally represented desire to fuck our mother is not what he's getting at with the Oedipus complex.

It's a non-representational, unconscious structural aspect of how desire functions generally. As we grow we make certain distinctions as to how to desire in different relationships, but this process is messy and essentially perverse.

This does not mean we're all incestuous freaks. That's an over-interpretation of Freud.
>>
>>63601095

Authority and rebellion against it/ wanting to take the father's place are also as equally important in the theory as desire for sexually gratifying and obtaining mother's approval.

You don't even understand what the fucking word 'interpretation' means. You're a lazy, aggro tard. The Oedipus complex is a useful tool for interpreting many things. As I already said, I don't think Terry sat down and wrote a sceenplay based an his reading of Freud.

For fucksake, the Oedipus complex itself makes use of an ancient myth in order to structure Freud's own interpretative developments.

You seriously need to prove that you're not an idiot by making a claim in your next post.

>All this came from because you werent paying attention and thought he was sniffing his mothers underwear

the first thing I said was that it was the neighbour's house/nightgown. I think you're mixing up the point at which I started commenting with earlier comments from another anon.

>This is what you thought was the plot of the movie and now you're trying to get out of it or somethin[g]

I've already stated the film is about many things, and that my interpretation seems to be a central theme to me. This only means that it's something I felt throughout my viewing of most of the film. It would do to note that I felt this way well before the nightgown scene.

>please stop "interpreting" movies are read about the author, what his philosophies are and why he's making movies, what this movie means

Sadly this only aggravates my tendency to try and interpret things. Although i can't make much of this fucking garbage sentence. What the fuck are you trying to say?

>>
>>63601806
It's not a hard to see what he was trying to do,but his editing and inner monologue makes the movie confusing. It doesn't take pseudo intelectuals and other bullshit

The priest at the church gave a sermon about the book of Job, so that's what the entire creation of the world and the mother asking god why her son died.

This along with the opening monologue about the way of nature and the way of grace, the main character loved in the way of nature,he was selfish , his mother and brother loved in the way of nature.

>Mother, father you always you wrestle inside of me

He was trying also to be more selfless like his mother. He hated his father like every teenager hates their parents, he saw hypocrisy and weakness in him ,not because he was trying to fuck his mom.

At the end of the movie we see the mother coming to peace with her sons death and the main character finding god again as he remembers his childhood and dead brother.

kek, the movie starts with a quote from the book of Job.

This is as far as you got?

Nothing about nature vs grace?

I'm not even that anon, anon.

You mentioned nothing about the act of creation and the CGI dinosaurs...

You need to know just a little bit about Terr Bear's life. For instance, his homosexual brother committed suicide and according to his religion, is now suffering the eternal flame of Hell.

>It's not a hard to see what he was trying to do,but his editing and inner monologue makes the movie confusing. It doesn't take pseudo intelectuals and other bullshitThe priest at the church gave a sermon about the book of Job, so that's what the entire creation of the world and the mother asking god why her son died. This along with the opening monologue about the way of nature and the way of grace, the main character loved in the way of nature,he was selfish , his mother and brother loved in the way of nature.Mother, father you always you wrestle inside of meHe was trying also to be more selfless like his mother. He hated his father like every teenager hates their parents, he saw hypocrisy and weakness in him ,not because he was trying to fuck his mom. At the end of the movie we see the mother coming to peace with her sons death and the main character finding god again as he remembers his childhood and dead brother.

You're a sick fuck.

I like two things in my arthouse
good music:
>Under the Skin
good use of silence:
>Stalker

I feel like if you can do those two things well, enhance beautiful music with colours, scenes, locations, movement.
And show that nature is both loud and silent, and that's a balance we all search for.

If you can do those two things well, you can shovel your communist propaganda on the backend of your movies, tack that shit on who cares.

>all these retarded interpretations

This movie is about the religious experience.
The sole thing Malick wanted to share was not Grace Vs. Nature, some retarded Oedipus theory or even anything about metaphysics.

This is why the movie is told in the format of a prayer. This movie mimics god's role in prayer.
This movie doesn't give you answers, it doesn't raise any more questions by the end, what it does is it washes away your questions.

God does not answer to you, he does not explain anything. As people ask question their scopes widen, the loss of aloved one becomes a question about good and evil in the universe.
This mimics the Jobs setup in the beginning.
After feeling immense pressure from exploring the fabric of reality they then close themselves in and look inside themselves.
There are several scenes with Jack talking in prayer but not to god, to himself. Especially haunting is when he thinks about killing his father.

Then, after squeezing everything out of him, Jack begins to sink. The scene of Penn in the high rise building do this perfectly. He is not sinking underground, but he is feeling the sinking pressure of going up, like in an elevator.

All his doubts are washed away, he begins to accept everything. He didn't need answers from God, he needed the grace to move on.

If this movie was about teaching any philosophy it wouldn't have been shot and edited so empirically.
This movie is about the experience with the theories being backdrop.
