He's the one character whose every move and plan has more or less come to fruition and he's gained all his success off the back of his own merit. In the show they make it seem like he lucks out or else others do more of the work, like Sansa saving his ass in the Vale or Olenna being the mastermind behind killing Joffrey or being powerless against Cersei.
