I guess it would be weird for me because susannah/detta/Odetta in the book is black and that's a large part of her character. Detta refers to Roland and Eddie as honkies a fair bit and Odetta was at protests in Mississippi back in the 60's (I think the 60's) she obviously is treated differently because of her skin color.
It comes up a fair bit in the books.
So it would be a bit off for me seeing as if Roland were black I'm sure he and susannah would have that in common and would at least discuss that and I'm sure detta would treat him differently.
