Guinness only retroactively hated Star Wars because he was mad it's all normies knew him for. He's said repeatedly to have been the most professional on set and the only actor who believed in the movie

If it wasn't for industrial light and magic and talented prop/character makers, it could have been a big embaressing flop.
By that I mean,, the team who created the artwork and effects made this film be something more than what was on paper.
I can imagine reading the scripts and not knowing how it was going to end up could very well have all the actors on set going wtf have I got myself involved in.
For Alec Guinness this would have been even more of a concern.
