Considering everyone at the school is young and developing their powers, which they're not in control of yet, it's not exactly outside the realm of possibilities for Xavier to be dismissive of a students probable overreaction.

I think the continuity between these movies is meant to be really loose.
Take Jubilee. She's in the first three as a teenage student of Xavier. She was even going to be in Days as one of the survivors.
Now she's going to be a teenager in this one that's set in the 80's.
Pretty sure they just don't care and, instead of sticking to every little detail, they just try to make a good, fun movie. Good on them. Personally, I don't really care about the canon of the films as long as they're good, and the last two were good ones.
