Try Lexx for some weird space shit, but it's not for everyone. After watching every episode I'm still not even sure if I liked it.
Also, you said no anime but you're fucking getting some anyway: Azumanga Daioh and Trigun. Neither of them fit the "no one has ever heard of" criterion, but as someone who doesn't like anime I thought they were both great, albeit very different. Throw in Nichijou if you think YouTube Poop is funny.
