My problem with the movie is that she wasn't fat she was extremely obese, true beauty or not when she breaks your pelvis during sex or needs an oxygen tank to make it to the bathroom it's not exactly a happy ending.
This movie was awful. "Hurrr if you're attractive you're actually a terrible human being but if you're ugly you're the kindest most genuine soul there is."

This. The scenes with Costanza have this problem too because by the movie's logic Jack Black should see Costanza as a hideous troll because he's a shitty person on the inside.
This movie didn't know what it wanted its message to be.
I get that it wanted to push a "true beauty is on the inside" sort of agenda, but it's kind of ruined with the love interest is a) morbidly and dangerously obese to the point where she absolutely SHOULD lose weight for her own fucking wellbeing, and b) the source of all the constant "tee hee look how fat she is" jokes throughout the movie that we're supposed to find whimsical and charming despite the fact that it goes against everything the movie is trying to say. Even as a kid I knew this was absolute shit.
