In "Unbreakable" that movie Angelina Jolie directed about the American Olympian who was a POW in the pacific theater the actor wears a gold ring the entire movie and nobody ever says a word about.
Like. He's in a prison camp. It never gets looted by the guards who could have easily taken it without repercussion, none of the other prisoners ever mention it even in a throwaway line like "you got a girl back home?". It's just there and NOBODY acknowledges it the entire film.
