Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan are the only two filmmakers that has directed anything even worth discussing in this genre. Marvel and Sony flicks are literally direct-to-video quality and are completely interchangeable. Man of Steel, by comparison, stands a masterpiece of filmmaking.

Zack Snyder is dumb as fuck as a person and Man of Steel was a disappointing mess but these DC flicks are at least weirder and more visually interesting than the Marvel tv-shows-with-a-higher-CG-budget. Name one scene from a Marvel movie that's as strange as gunmen wearing, respectively, a hyper-realistic goat mask, a Batman mask and a giant eyeball mask.

I agree with Snyder being a good director but you can´t hold it against people to not like him because of his shitty gimmicks like slow-mo/speed up action scenes and grey/bluish color filters. They don´t fit that well with the movies he uses them in and keeps making novice mistakes like that so he deserves to be memed a little.

Man of Steel is bad on so many levels. I hate saying this but it goes without explanation, and if you don't understand that than you truly have bad taste in movies.
Watchmen is good. Nolan's first two are good. Man of Steel was not good.
The pacing is terrible. The movie feels extremely hollow and is forgettable. The romance is forced. The writing is predictable and without depth.
It has some cool elements, and I don't blame the actors, but Man of Steel is lifeless. It's a waste of Shannon and a waste of Cavill. It's a 5/10 that could easily have been an 8/10 with some improved writing, pacing and editing. Some great action and concepts that just fall flat.
Lastly, the plot was bland. And while I don't agree with the complaints that "it's too grimdark" or "man of murder" being too fargone from the concept of superman, the decision to go in a darker direction didn't seem to be driven by anything. If they're making that concious choice, do something with it, otherwise it just feels forced.
Being ahead of marvel doesn't make is good, it makes it less bad.
