Not a bad overall movie. Solid entertainment.
I'm going to delve into some big spoilers right off the bat, final warning.
The Force Awakens centers around the story of Kylo Ren, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, who is shipped off to study the force with his uncle Luke Skywalker. Kylo thinks the lessons Luke try to teach him are boring. He doesn't see what's wrong with unity under a single galactic banner. When he discovers his grandfather was Darth Vader, he begins experimenting with the dark side. He ultimately reaches out to a band of Darth Vader fanboys called the Knights of Ren and while Luke is away one day leads a massacre of his fellow Jedi in training classmates. Luke returns and finds everyone dead and his nephew missing. The final straw, Luke vows to no longer side in the galactic conflict and retreats to an isolated Star system where he can live out the rest of his days in peace.
Fast forward ten years and Kylo is commanding an army like his grandfather. They're conquering outer rim territories and being left alone due to a rift in the galactic senate. The indecision leads them to decide the First Order is no threat to the Republic, and the outer rim planets are no value to the Republic as well.
General Leia Organa is not ok with this, so she uses her vast resources to fund a guerilla tactic resistance to the First Order.
Whispers abound though that the order has constructed a super weapon capable of destroying entire star systems, and a man on a wasteland called Jakku claims he's in possession of plans for such a weapon, so Leia sends a secret task force to retrieve these plans. It's here that the movie opens.
Lead by the dashing Poe Dameron, the task force is caught in an ambush and only Poe survives. He and his droid BB8 meet with Lor San Tekka and he gives them the plans. The First Order has tracked Poe to this village though and launched a full scale assault to prevent the plans from falling into the hands of the Resistance. Continued...

Poe sends a final transmission to the Resistance and sends his Droid BB8 out into the desert.
When some villagers begin fighting back, the sociopathic Captain Phasma orders her squadron to execute every one in the village. One Storm trooper, Finn, refuses to do so, and while being called out for this by Phasma and nearly reprehend we, Kylo Ren's shuttle arrives forcing everyone at attention. Even Phasma seems nervous for him to be around.
Kylo orders the troops quit killing villagers and focus on finding the Resistance agent. Phasma brings Lor San Tekka before him and unwilling to give up Poe Kylo readies to end the old man's life. Poe reveals himself and is immediately apprehended in hopes to spare Tekka. Kylo kills him anyway.
As punishment for his squeamishness, Finn is ordered to the unit in charge of interrogating Poe.
BB-8 spends the night running from scavengers and wild beasts in the desert, before hiding in the wreckage of a Star Destroyer for the night.
Aboard the Finalizer, Poe is brutally beaten but refuses to reveal the plans are in BB8.
Kylo Ren and General Hux argue about his worth. Kylo says he can use the force to get the answers they need and not to hill him yet. Hux doesn't believe in the Force but tells Kylo he'll give him one more night. Kylo enters the chambers himself and mentally tortures Poe, who gives up that he hid the plans in BB8. Finn has to leave the room and vomits upon removing his helmet. He makes a decision right there that he's done being a Stormtrooper. Continued...
BB8 gets woken up by scuttling in the Star Destroyer. Afraid it's another scavenger or beast, he hides. It's another scavenger, but there's something different about this one. As the scavenger repels she catches sight of BB8 and approaches him. She removes her mask and shows him she's friendly. She gains the little droids trust and it follows her into town.
Finn decides to break Poe out and tells him all he asks is that he take him with him. Poe says he's going back to Jakku and Finn tries to argue they'll die if they do. Alarms start ringing and there's no longer time for arguing as they cram into a tie fighter and shoot their way to freedom. Nearly. Hux orders them shot down and as the Tie hurtles toward Jakku, Poe ejects leaving Finn to go down in the wreckage.
Rey reaches a marketplace and attempts to sell BB8 but as the little droid begs not to be sold she has a change of heart. Thus doesn't sit well with the alien junker who has some thugs take BB8 anyways. Rey is thrown around but runs back to her speeder and produces a staff and proceeds to whup on these junker thugs. After she takes the water she'd have sold BB8 for and lays low in a tent while a sherif alien and his crew search for the cause of the commotion.
Finn wakes up and quickly sheds his Stormtrooper armor and seeing smoke of civilization heads toward it. He stumbles around dehydrated into a tent where he finds Rey's water and begins chugging it. Rey finds him and he starts to run but she trips him up, calling him a thief. He begins panicking when he sees BB8 asking where the droid came from and exclaiming how they bed to run. The sherif spots them and tells Rey not to move, but aliens all around them begin scattering. They all turn to see Tie fighters screaming towards them. Finn says they need to run now but Rey doesn't listen until they start shooting. Continued...

They begin running towards a small carrier that is destroyed, and forced instead to steal the Millennium Falcon. Pursued now by Tie fighters and Gangsters in jumpers, they head for the massive grave yards. Finn shoots down the ties and Rey manages to out mani ever the Jumpers. As they scream into space Kylo Ren's Star Destroyer is closing in. Rey says they have to jump to light speed, and they do.
Kylo is not happy they've escaped.
He retreats to his private chambers where he seems to consult the remains of Darth Vaders mask. He does everything to praise it, reassure it, and then ultimately call it weak and swear not to make the same mistakes it did. Continued...
