Almost any mainstream normal books has an audio version of them. I guess i would recommend Stephen King's work, there is a lot of his books on audio, the stories are always mysterious and interesting to hear, i guess it would fill the empty void of movies preety good if you ask me.

I haven't listened a lot of audiobooks I'm afraid. I do listen to a lot of podcasts. Dunno if you have that habit but I enjoy it a lot. A /tv/ related one I've started listening to recently is called The Canon.
I also don't know if you like Star Wars at all but there are some nice radio dramas that are like extended retellings of the story, with some added scenes and stuff. It's nice if you like Star Wars. The voice actors are very talented.
I also remember there is an audio version of Sun Tzu's Art of War narrated by Aidan Gillen. If you're into baneposting. I wish I had more knowledge of audiobooks. Sorry OP.

I have a friend who's blind and he still tries to watch movies and stuff. He mainly listens, though, and prefers stuff like dramas and comedy because he doesn't miss much that way. He loves stand-up.
I'm honestly sorry. Just know that stem cell research is doing wonders, and to sign yourself up for as many testing programs as you can. They have incredibly promising results. Also know that you can get a computer that feels like a regular keyboard, except braille pops up on it so you can read words properly.

maybe also start learning piano now so you'll have something genuinely impressive to get good at while blind

Wow, I've my own health ailments and on the process to recover from an extremely mild concussion (still a little bit wonky when it comes to typing down, but that may also be due to anxiety), but honestly OP, the thought of going blind would've made me extremely desperate and seriously consider suicide to end it all. So you're much stronger than me, which is quite impressive.
But really, find some nice woman and have at least the thought of her to cherish and make the blow easier to take. Other than that, never give up. Think that neurological research is moving things forward at giant leaps and that eventually they'll be capable of doing surgery to reconnect the brain synapses that may've been damaged and caused the source of your degenerative disease.
