Kylo Ren was a part of some rag-tag group of badasses that all look like bounty hunters except he was the only one that could rig up a lightsaber.
Maybe he then chances upon the First Order and Snoke who took him in as an apprentice and Kylo is now basically an enforcer for them.

I was watching Empire the other day, and the action is just baffling sometimes. Like when Vader is throwing shit at Luke, sometimes it's not even going to hit him but he tries to hit them anyway, then he's swinging in the wrong direction and doesn't dodge the ones coming at like 5 mph.

A big part of the problem is that I think everyone's voice sounds either wrong or too much like a rehash of something from the previous trilogy. For me it still has a very suspect "are we doing this right" fanfiction vibe.
I don't think there is any difference in quality between the trailers - this is just an action trailer whereas the western one was mystery/character introduction focused. It's nice seeing modifications of classic design, and Star Wars battle sequences in new settings, but that's literally it.
