As the fight with Sheev went on, he grew stronger as Sheev grew weaker.
If I was asked to make one single change in the prequels I would say "not every jedi has to use a light saber. Sheev doesn't use one either."
Sure a lot of them can use one, or two or 4 but not all of them.
I would want Sheev to be more metaphysical in his power use. Show how he clouds a mind. Reality warps around him. We saw this when mace dindu reflected his lightening. He gave an intimidating shout much like obi-wan in the original, with devastating results.

Mace focuses on styles that bends the user to the darkside, where as sith styles are all counters for the light side. so to say Mace could out do Sidious with skill is a no no. Mace's power has to do with an ability only he has. He can see the shatter points of all things and situations. Even a person clouded by sith sorcery could only be so for so long until his power eventually finds a weakness.
