Jedi cut 'em down like they're butter.

And they really are pretty useless.

even the super battle droids were useless tho, they were lucas' autistic attempt at comic relief when they were meant to be antagonists. another reason why the prequels seem so half baked when they could have been so good

Is there a different metric for violence against robots as opposed to violence against living creatures when it comes to rating systems?
If the antagonists in the prequels fielded armies of human soldiers (clones perhaps?), which were then sliced and diced by the Jedi heroes, would the movies have faced stricter ratings?
>I'm not a robot

>>63475232
Why not just build an army of droidikas?

When the Soviets filmed War and Peace, the war of 1812 took up an entire film out of a four-part series, and the battle of Borodino in particular was like a 20 minute montage. Thank God we didn't have to suffer that much constant CGI lasers and explosions.

The whole point of the prequels was to emphasize how powerful the Jedi were
The point of these droids was that they were really easy for jedis to destroy by dozens, without being actual soldiers or that would have been way to gorey for a children movie.
Also they were pretty good in normal battles against soldiers without Jedis

I also think they were a pretty cool robot design

What I don't get about CGi in films, is how does it translate into them? You see some pretty fucking horrible CGI, and just because it's better than the rest of the shit, you just go "well, fuck it, at least I'm not restricted by design and manufacturating complications (even though they've worked great in the past in this particular case). Even if your main purpose is simply world building and making the world you created seem bigger and grandious, it all goes to hell if you can't make it believable by placing horrible imagery on the background of a claustrophobic mechanic acting, nor with ridiculous dialogues and stupid plots.
Lucas created a nice, simple and aesthetic world and fucked it all up with "plots and poetry, everything is so dense", guy thinks like a fucking child, you give him limited resources, good ideas and a good crew, he does great. Give him complete authority, and everyone shitting their pants and complying to his every wish and stupid fucking idea he comes up with out of fear. He does bad.

>>
>>63478778
Battledroids were so cheap to manufacture, they outnumbered the clones 1000 to 1 and really had the Republic on their toes just by sheer numbers. That the Jedi had to be mobilized against them at all shows how serious a threat they were, despite lacking intelligence. Their non threatening demeanor was also designed that way as too not to overly frightened policed or occupied citizens on Separatists home worlds.

Doesn't matter if they're shit. The CIS could build them faster than the Republic could destroy them, even after the fall of Geonosis.

Armament and ability mean little if you can just drop 500 gazillion transports on a planet at the drop of a hat and zerg rush everything

>>
>>63479302
This guy gets it.

People don't understand what's happening because they don't pay attention. Pick up 1 book. 1! set in that timeframe.

The story for the prequels isn't bad, it's just that the execution in the films is abyssmal for the most part. Most other media set in that timeline (books, comics, shows) are pretty ok. Plagueis and Tarkin books were both good.
>>
>>63479411

Initially they were, but after the Naboo debacle the Trade Federation realized it was a fucking terrible idea to make an entire army dependent upon the survival of one starship and made them independently controlled. There were still command units but if those got destroyed the droids under their command would just continue trying to execute their last orders until they succeeded, were destroyed, or a replacement command unit took over

The droids are incompetent because they were never supposed to defeat the Republic. Palpatine wanted the Senate to give him unchecked power so he created a droid army for the CIS that was large enough to spook the other senators but not competent enough to actually win.

I've never even seen the film, it looked so awful that it turned me off from watching the series for years. I'm glad I changed my mind eventually though since by Season 3 TCW really started getting into its own.

And yeah the original Clone Wars was pretty great as well, though I wasn't a big fan of the stupid over the top battles.

Yeah, but battles aside (some awesome, some too much), Tartakovsky did way more with way less than Lucas ever did when it came to making us care about these characters and emphasize with them. Despite the short running time, he also had better understanding of allowing us to have quiet, subtle moments to build up tension and emotions, something that got lost in all that "density" during the prequels.

Self-preservation =/= fear.

They also ran away from the exploding reactor aboard the Federation ship in Phantom Menace.

Sure it's dumb to make them scaredy-cats but they weren't programmed to be afraid. They were programmed to recognize when they were facing a threat they couldn't fight and retreat from it.

A Jedi is a dangerous threat but the droids seldom run from them because even a Jedi can be taken down by blaster fire. There's no fighting an explosion.

The introduction to the droids on the control ship and during the Naboo invasion was damn near perfect. They were a truly formidable enemy, like stormtroopers but even colder and more efficient.

And the droidekas started out as a Terminator-level threat. When even the Jedi saw them, they ran.

Then Lucas had to ruin them with that fucking gungan battle. That atrocity was even worse than the ewoks, ffs.

Stupid nigger lizards on dinosaurs with EMP watermelons vs tanks and infantry on an open field, and what should have been Hoth 2.0 turned into a pinnacle shark-jumping moment in a movie that was all about jumping the shark.

And like that, the big baddies of the prequels lost every shred of (halfway-decent) credibility that they had.

The tactic was superiority in numbers.
Didn't turn out too well, but its a legit strategy if you have thousands of disposable, easily replaceable troops like America does.
Just throw enough bullets and bodies at something and eventually it'll go away.
