I don't like it much (nor am I really into the general look of this beach attack/castle destruction fight) but I'm willing to see the scene in full before deciding. For whatever reason, Finn is going to run around with a lightsaber in this movie and then give it to Rey, but if we're going to buy the fight against Kylo in the last act, we've gotta see Finn level up at least once against a lesser opponent, yeah?
I think the movie will be good. It's just going to be feel much closer to a remake of ANH than I think anyone anticipated. J.J. clearly did NOT want to expand upon or update the basic designs (still Tie fighters and X-Wings everywhere) or Manichean good vs. evil setup from the OT and I think he and Kasdan leaned very hard on that first movie for plot inspiration. I think that's probably something people will welcome after the very feel and thematics of the PT, but if you bring in a bunch of OT autists like Kasdan, J.J. and Simon Pegg (consulted on the script), then you're not going to get the freshest product.
