AQOTWF is a solid second place, but Platoon is the king of all war films. It's probably the only one to get the military lifestyle that accurate.
What happened to the other guys from the main character's class? I was trying to keep track on them but some of them just disappear. They don't even show their deaths.

Ugh cringe if you actually think this is true. La Grande Illusion you can make an argument for. Paths of Glory is just baseless cheesy junk that was devoid of any emotional payoff so Kubrick throws in the singing girl to true and redeem it. Cross of Iron is the proper best war flick.
