I know Star Trek loves the "amazing technology they immediately forget about next episode" but that one has to take the cake.
Hell forget the gun and its transporter. Just to make the thing usable they introduce a perfect x-ray vision like sight never seen before or since.
>>63454880
I mean the gun itself was made by Starfleet and was quickly made obsolete by some new phaser development. That butthurt Vulcan was the one who came up with the idea of putting x-ray goggles and a transporter on it (although it's hard to believe criminals hadn't come up with this idea before).
>>63460003
That was bullshit too.
>It was designed a while ago to work in dampening fields since phasers don't
>But new phasers don't have that problem
>Multiple episodes of DS9 itself have shown phasers don't work in dampening fields
And the concept of transporters so small you could stick one on the rifle like it's a fucking handguard or something is also just in that episode.
>>63458373
pls don't let this dax thread die
>>63459854
It's probably really easy to counter.
The transporter doesn't work through shields, and the x-ray vision doesn't work when sensors are scrambled.
>>63460678
>The transporter doesn't work through shields
Except when they do. And I'm not talking about when they technobabble their way through, I'm talking about when they straight up forget and just do it. One of the oldest rules in Star Trek and they can't get it right.
>>63458218
what a whiney little spoonhead bitch
>>63460773
Well this criticism doesn't apply to the episode in question, so I'm not sure why you're bringing it up.
reminder Dukat did nothing wrong aside from perhaps being to leinient with the Bajoran terrorists, and except when he accidentally got himself stuck on the station while the boobytraps were going off and when he tried to screw over a rival politician by separating that politician from his son, but then he accidentally left a trail of clues and Garak caught him, and maybe that one time he accidentally got that chick pregnant, and when his whole life was ruined when he forgot that the prophets were omnipotent beings inside the wormhole, and one time he tried to convince Sisko that he was perfectly sane, and went about this task by talking to imaginary tulpas, also the whole becoming Space Satan thing might have been ill advised
>>63460824
Weyoun pls go.
>>63457969
it's embarrassing that you prepubescent virgins think that the fat-faced midget is worth mentioning
>>63460831
In the episode in question they never think to put up a transporter scattering field or jam the x-ray vision.
>>63462124
They also don't figure out that the killer is using a transporter gun with x-ray vision until close to the end, IIRC.

>"The continuity of the show is completely haphazard. It’s haphazard by design. It’s not like they are trying desperately to maintain continuity of the show. They don’t care, and they’ll tell you flat out that they don’t care. Well, that is misreading the core audience. The STAR TREK, hardcore audience loves continuity; they love accumulating data on these ships. They love knitting together all the little pieces, and compiling lists, and doing trivia. That’s been a staple of the STAR TREK culture from the get-go. People really love the details. They love the fact that the details all add up and make one mosaic, and that the universe holds together. When you don’t give a shit, you’re telling the audience: don’t bother. Don’t bother to really learn this stuff, because it’s not going to matter next week, anything that happened this week."

Did the writers ever communicate with each other? Especially by the 5th season, details in Voyager get muddled and characters from earlier seasons get forgotten about, resulting in more crewmembers that never existed before being pulled out of the writers' asses.

I thought the crew compliment was said to be around 150 somewhere in season 1? Either way, the writers definitely were on entirely different pages, and there was a ton of executive meddling. The amount of plot holes and continuity errors are off the charts, and the characters change depending on who is writing them--especially Janeway. The show went through something like 12 shuttles and 2 delta flyers as well. It's ridiculous.
>>63467474

They were supposed to be low on resources and fighting for survival.
Instead it became a TNG clone following the adventures of a 7-person crew with a variety of background no-names who transfer on and off the ship, holodeck adventures, shuttle crashes, non-corporeal alien possessions, etc...

>>63467677

>>63464087
>>63467552
Not really, but if the writers had cared about these details they would have at least mentioned it in a log entry. They make no attempt to explain anything.
There are so many episodes where Voyager is low on power, followed by episodes where power is not a concern, or where Voyager had maps downloaded into their computer followed by episodes where they are lost and flying blind. One week they are desperate to keep the lights on, next week they have enough energy to spend 2 years flying through an empty void on nothing but replicated food. Not even the slightest attempt at consistency, and all it would take is a 2 second blurb in the opening log entry.

It doesn't even feel like a real Star Trek movie. It's like a vampire/body snatchers movie with Star Trek stuff pasted over it.
Vengeance Picard was out of character, and I think it's first contact with Vulcans origin story fucking blew. Hated Zephram Cochrane and him being an unlikable drunked buffoon.
Like, the space battle was really cool, the suspense of the inexorable Borg takeover of the Enterprise was very good, and it had the first appearance of good Worf (instead of the shitty DS9 Worf) in years, but not enough to balance out what I didn't like.

I'm watching TNG on Netflix. It's my first experience with Star Trek and it's pretty shit. I'm about 7 episodes in but I have faith this gets better.
Patrick Stewart's the only good thing so far.

The Vorta bitch in that episode would get my diplomatic privileges if you know what I mean.
>>63471664
every star trek kinda sucks the first couple seasons.
>>63471664
anon I couldn't get past the first few episodes from the first season. Just skip to season for. Once the kid is off the show it gets a lot better!
>>63471676
no, i do not know what you mean
>>63471711
>Just skip to season for

Sorry I meant to say four.

So much bad shit happened to O'Brien that you could be making this up and I'd still believe it.
Honestly, the man's life is a joke from his first appearance onward.
