At the end of AC2 you find out that the artifacts the Assassins and Templars have been fighting over were left on Earth by Ancient Aliens and they are using the Animus to relay messages to their descendants in the future so they can prevent one of the evil Ancient Aliens from causing the 2012 apocalypse. This seems like it has a chance to be good, but it's going to be tough to make the modern day scenes fit in. The scenes explaining the Animus to the audience and getting Fassbender hooked into it could ruin the movie.
