Sirius Black was cast wrong Viggo Mortensen is a much better fit than Gary Oldman.
Oldman could have made a better Lupin though.

Humans keep having new generations of children that keep growing up. Imagine that.

When I think about it, Harry Potter was easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects?all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>But at least the books are ggood though!
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King

The fact that some people post that picture unironically is hilarious.

To be honest as someone who read the book as a child I found the world building and action to be pretty boring. Rowling had some interesting ideas but quite a lot of them just kind of fall flat. Also wand action sequences was probably one of the worst idea ever.

The strength in the books is in the humor and in her ability to write interesting characters with fun to read interactions.

Harry Potter came out during high school, though.

I remember when my schoolmates thought Harry and Hermione would get together instead of Ron and Hermione. Why are shippers so fucking retarded?
>>

this.
>>
>>63452274
Because it makes more sense, plus hermione is cuter than ginny (and I'm into gingers and all that)
>>
>>63452489
It might have had more chemistry but by the sixth book Rowling had all but stated that she was going to end up with Ron. However autistic shippers still thought she would end up with Harry.

It holds up pretty well. Shame about the movies.

Also DH>OotP>GoF>PoA>HBP>CoS>PS

Or HBP and then PoA. Also the first three is more or less equal to me. This series is incredibly hard to rate. It's hard to even compare the first one with the last.

I was eight years old when the Philosophers stone came out. I am 21 now.

I enjoyed Harry Potter as an adult and still do.

PoA > PS = CoS = OotF> DH > HBP > GoF

I think it may be the only modern YA fantasy novel that's going to be remembered as a classic. Of course it was written before it was a thing so I see some connection with more adult fantasy.
It just works. Except for quidditch. And I'm not mad that the universe will be explored further. It was quite limiting to follow only Harry who doesn't know shit about magical world and spends most of the year in one place. The lore is deep. Tolkien did the same with his letters.

Snaep was a good friend.
