Is Out of the Furnace a quality movie, Casey's acting aside? I've considered watching it a few times but it seems pretty trite.

I enjoyed Out of the Furnace. It feels a bit like Deerhunter at parts, but the acting in the film is easily the best part. Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Christian Bale and Willem Dafoe all turn in great performances.
That being said the film also didn't make a lot of buzz at the time it was released. It's possible I'm overlooking something that was subpar in the film, but personally I think you should watch it for sure.
Casey Affleck or Woody Harrelson deserved a nom for best supporting actor over Bradley Cooper in American Hustle, and over the Somalian Captain Phillips guy as well.

Looks wise, I honestly like Casey way more than mr bland face Ben.
Maybe I have just missed it but I rarely see him lead roles or garner the recognition one of his caliber deserves.
