for animation to be taken seriously it seems to need to be created by a person of spectacular genius. i think there's maybe three anime films off the top of my head that have reached a level of art which surpasses most high quality motion picture films, and that's grave of the fireflies, spirited away, and akira. grave of the fireflies reaches a top one hundred films of all time, spirited away might, akira doesn't.

Someone explain to me why this movie is considered so good?
The show had loads of pointless symbolism and absolutely shit characters. I don't remember much from the movie but I know that it was weird and its ending was literally half an hour of "2deep4u".
Plenty of movies did elements better than Eva as a whole.
The characters have realistic traits but the rest of the setting is totally fucking retarded. I know Japan's culture is shit but when your lives depend on it, you'd think they would be more helpful to the children.
The characters are insufferable. Shinji is fucking useless, Asuka is a narcissist and Rei is barely even there.
I'm sure there plenty of anime and movies that handle teenage angst better. Even fucking Tomoko is a better character than Shinji.

That's the point it's not supposed to be about perfect characters, they are flawed for a reason.
It's a garbage clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in waifu faggotry and NEUROSIS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.
However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The broken, angsty characters all trying their hardest to hide from their mental issues, the SYMBOLISM, peculiar, complex machinery, the whole Freudian faggotry and everything about the Evangelion world fuels their fantasies of being a patrician, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on guilt tripping, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underage retards eat this shit right the fuck up.
tl;dr; If you're impressed by YA novels(Hunger Games, Divergent, Horns, etc) or even garbage like Donnie Darko then you'll probably love it.

Having watched EoE again this past week, the music direction, the detail and animation, the cuts from scenes to scenes add so much depth to the movie as a whole. It's really enjoyable and it's so well executed. It's the best conclusion to a story I have ever seen.
