are there any movies that start off (family friendly or at least unsuspecting) then go full blown horror half way through?
>>
>>63392555
no the idea is that no one gets to know, the crew is maybe in on it and most scenes only have one actor and the killer in it, and at the end theres a massacre scene where all the remaining actors die after they discover footage of the other actors dieing.

I agree. Haven't really seen a movie that 'disturbed' me or effected me in a way that I felt truly 'horrified'.

I'm beginning to think such a movie doesn't exist.

A couple of movies have scent quite a decent chill up my spine, like a couple of scenes in the Shining, but yeah, haven't been horrified in the sense that I was rooted to my seat in sheer terror, not like anything IRL. Though, I've had this shit happen to me before, IRL, and I can't say it's a nice experience.

>>
>>63393187
I can list loads of movies that made me tense, grip my seat. But not out of terror. More like, the atmosphere was just... you didn't know what was coming and were expecting something dramatic to happen.

True horror is difficult to replicate outside of real life situations. I guess it depends on the person, but for people like me and the OP, we would like to experience such a moment through watching film, it's just a thrill, I guess? Or maybe we're so autistic that nothing effects us.

>>
It's been years since I've watched a movie that actually spooked me. I thought Human Centipede came close, but that was more disgust than horror.

I've yet to watch inland empire. Is this scene really that spooky? It would definitely spook me some, that image is quite unnerving, actually. And I can just imagine lynch setting up the atmosphere and ambient noise perfectly to scare the shit out of you.
>>
horror films are made for money, they cater to a specific audience which likes the same old shit and studios don't want to take risks on something new or genuinely horrifying.

'the mothman prophesies' and the first 'blair witch' are the only films that can still unnerve me these days

'session 9' is up there too.

i'm years past my horror phase and any cheap jump scares or brutal violence is just trashy and predictable to me, the only horror that does it anymore is the kind where something is suggested off-screen - a kind of ambiguous dread.

unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many of those types around. i just grabbed 'cure' because of this thread so thanks for the rec, anon. if any other anon know of films like this let me know because most other horror is shit 2bh.

Going to agree with this. It's disturbing as fuck in a very psychological way. The Christmas "party" scene is beyond fucked. The made for tv movie To Catch A Killer is pretty good and stars Brian Dennehy as John Wayne Gacy.

also, another made for tv movie called The Deliberate Stranger about Ted Bundy starring Mark Harmon is good as well, though some of the score is atrocious. Apparently Bundy's lawyer said it was extremely accurate.

If you don't dig made for tv movies, that's fine, but they're honestly the best made for tv movies I've seen and incredibly underrated.

the horror genre can't capture true horror because it's fiction. true horror exists outside of art entirely, because if art were able to express horror, it would not be beautiful, and would not be art

true horror exists only in our lives. in the moments where we discover we are monsters, that everything we've done has been for nothing, or, when we behold it rather than experience it as a gross violation of the good for pleasure (basically, witnessing the rawlsian definition of evil)

>>

>>
>>63396236
yes

aesthetic pleasure and beauty are two different things, though. something can be ugly and beautiful, like piss christ. the tank of piss is disgusting, the image blasphemous, but what the art says about what's been done to christ is something beautiful that only a blasphemous image could reveal without words

>Things only got worse from there. Their cell phones were dead, and they hadn't brought flashlights. When Vega tried to carry Guilliams, he fell, shattering his glasses, breaking his elbow and breaking her ankle. In a matter of minutes, the couple's pleasant day outdoors had become a nightmare. Unable to walk, Guilliams stayed put while Vega went to get help. That was the last time she saw him.

That's propaganda religious extremist/terrorist execution videos which is among the lines of death on video in war and disastor footage. Why does this need to be explained?

Think: some guy that could be your neighbour who is secretly kidnapping women from the area and murdering and torturing them.

In the aforementioned novel there are somewhat explicit descriptions of a video where a teenage boy and girl are screaming as a chainsaw is heard in the background. Now that I would pay to see.

I told you I'm sick, sorry.
>>
>>63402818
People scream and cry in murder films available on the net all the time. Those Russian kids killing those homeless people with the hammer is just as you describe. You're not sick just trying to be edgy.

If that's what you were really interested in that type of content and not just typing shit to sound edgy then you'd know how much of it is actually out there

>OP hasn't seen the grifter
good for you buddy

What the fuck are you talking about you retard? That women was kidnapped by a a serial killer and then murdered.

When I was in my young teens I'd play world of Warcraft till night till morning and was always sleep deprived.

I wholly regret those times but what I gained from it was chronic sleep paralysis, and fucked up dreams, I've experianced every death you can imagine

There's nothing more terrifying than your subconscious turning on you my friends

That's pretty weird because the success of the act of hypnosis depends entirely on the hypnotist's skill AND the extent to which the person being hypnotized is actually willing to be hypnotized, their suggestibility. I Suppose 99% of the people could never be hypnotized if they weren't aware of it and didn't want it, the other 1%are just reaaaally suggestible.

Do you have a link to the article or something? It seems especially strange since they weren't even in some kind of a relaxing environment or situation, the woman was doing her job, which would be a situation where most people would be very vigilant and attentive.

>>63402505
I think they drug all their victims, like the cartel does. They seems very much out of it.
>>
>>63401686
sounds like an urban legend. hypnosis only works if you believe in it. your average tryhard fedora tipping athetist teenager can "beat" a pro hypnotist just by being a no fun allowed cunt

Did anyone else think As Above So Below could have been top 10 all time if not for a few small things?

>spoonfeeding every apocryphal reference
>not freaking the fuck out when a dude that supposedly got lost down there years ago shows up
>actually following the fucker around despite some pretty evident red flags
>Hell being pretty easy to escape from

That last one gets me the most. Oh, just apologize for some fucked up shit you did and crawl out of a manhole?

That movie had so much fucking potential and just blew it. The fact that it's still one of the better efforts in recent horror says a lot more about the genre than any of the film's (obvious) merits.
>>
>>63394883
Audition is good, but not at all scary. Confirmed for not knowing what the fuck you're talking about.
>>
>>63392420
Concur with the other guy. Movie was pretty shitty but the ending was fucking sick in the best way possible.

Sort of like the end of Blair Witch but more fleshed out.

hell that's really just modern day film

Vanishing on 7th street was one of the greatest horror movies i have seen in the past 5 years but completely shits the bed during the third act.

The horror genre is specifically for teens to bring their dates too so they can make out, and older people who need to get over their PTSD.

a grown adult without these characteristics is much more frightened by the prospects that are often portrayed in psychodramas.

-alzheimers
-cancer
-manipulation by malicious (HUMAN) powers you are unaware of
-the existential dread of living a forgettable life that has no tangible by products (meaninglessness)
-or that evil exists, and its a normal part of life or some shit.

I have a feeling alot of slasher flicks (esp. John Carpenters shit) take existential dread and personify it as a monster of some sort.

true horror is that existential dread isn't personified but still causes as much damage as a monster.

I haven't seen the babadook or it follows.

these are what truly frighten the normal fag
>>
>>63404855
With indie films, it shouldn't be like that. I worked security on AA/SB and I can confirm that it was one tight suffocating shot. They told us we were doing a romantic comedy for fucks sake.

The guy that wrote the script was some dickhead that kept coming around talking shit.
Seems as though I've wasted my life, but jerking it all the way to the bank.

No, she's not ok. She died with my parents when those tornadoes ripped through Joplin about five years ago. It's probably for the best; when we were in junior high she drank half a bottle of bleach because Alex Keating told her she was ugly.
