Except that one time when he accidentally got himself stuck on the station while the boobytraps were going off and when he tried to screw over a rival politician by separating that politician from his son, but then he accidentally left a trail of clues and Garak caught him, and maybe that one time he accidentally got that chick pregnant, and when his whole life was ruined when he forgot that the prophets were omnipotent beings inside the wormhole, and one time he tried to convince Sisko that he was perfectly sane, and went about this task by talking to imaginary tulpas

How the hell anyone could rank Beverly above Pulaski is beyond me, unless you're talking solely about waifu material. Pulaski was a better actress, a better character, and a more believable foil to Picard as a grumpy asshole during Season 2. Beverly is about as interesting as moldy bread, and all she does the rest of the show is bitch at Wesley and make non-advances at Picard.

Also

> Not ranking EMH first out of all doctors
Shit taste anon.

>compelling
>implying Inner Light isn't the most overrated piece of shit in TNG's run

I will never understand what people see in that episode. It's quite bad. You know from the start that its the probe doing it to Picard so there is no mystery. The characters are so cliche that it hurts and people die off screen long before we know them enough to care. The ending is ham fisted and Picard doesn't seem to really care that he's been in a mind prison at the end of the episode (yes, he mentions it later, but within the episode it isn't touched upon). Its forced sentimentality on the scale of an Adam Sandler movie but people give it a pass, why?

>>63383283

I was about to disagree with the top 3 but then I realized that they are so close in my mind that it doesn't really matter. The Doctor did hold up an entire show by himself so that helps.

Who hype for new series?
>>
>>63384050
it'll be grim dark crap
>>
>>63383953
>why?
Like most of TNG's best, it's about the idea, not the execution. Another one of my favorites, Time Squared, is like Inner Light. An entire episode dedicated to nothing but a hard sci-fi premise, all the way to the end. I love that they didn't even come up with some ham-fisted explanation for why there was a time paradox going on, and they just left it at that at the end. Huge hard sci-fi boner.
>>
>>63383953
Yeah, sometimes I wonder what Robert Picardo could have done on TNG acting with Patrick Stewart. Both of them came from theatre and stage acting, and were way more disciplined than the idiots surrounding them from Hollywood. I have a feeling Steward probably respects Picardo
>>
>>63384097
I'm okay with grim dark crap as long as they commit to complex ethical dilemmas and interesting sci-fi.

> It's an O'Brien smashes Daniel Craig's head in the freezer episode
>>
>>63384271

But the execution was just so bad. Its not a good episode and the central drama just doesn't work because none of the characters are interesting. Picard's wife wants him to stay at home more often. His son wants to play the flute. His daughter wants to start a family. That is all that there is to these characters and they show up for minutes at a time so there is no point in getting emotionally attatched to them. Picard's journey through the probe-world is also emotionally disconnected because we don't really see him fall in love with his new life. It begins with him not believing then it skips way into the future and he's already accepted that this is his new life for the most part. Picard's best friend dies off screen 20 minutes into the show and since we never see Picard become friends with him it carries zero emotional weight. Hell, even Picard doesn't seem that moved by it.

Sure, you could say its a good sci-fi idea but its not exactly unique. Anyone can come up with a sci-fi idea but an idea alone doesn't make for good television. Inner Light did not need a meandering 45 minutes to tell its story.

Even if you're just in it for the sci-fi concept, the episode isn't even dedicated to it. Its almost entirely dedicated to trying to manipulate the audience into feeling something for the inhabitants of this dying planet and Picard fails every step of the way. Compare it to The Visitor which takes a sci-fi concept AND manages to create a compelling emotional connection at the same time.

My bias is to more character driven conflicts and its why I prefer DS9. No technobable solutions and characters that actually matter. Who was it that said Sci-fi shouldn't be about technology but about how humans deal with that technology?

Still, as far as interesting sci-fi concepts go TNG had way better episodes. The Darmok one, First Contact, the one with the alien using her ship to look like a sexy goddess.
>>
>>63384396
I'd say actor wise Picardo wins. Character wise its Bashir. Bones by himself sucks and is only good when he has Kirk and Spock to play off of.

The Doctor was good but in the end he's still on Voyager and restricted to Voyager's scripts.
>>
>>63385529
>Bones by himself sucks
When is he ever by himself? Also, you could say that of every doctor except Picardo, given that there are entire episodes where he literally talks to himself and it manages to be more entertaining than anything else in Voyager.
