Unless you're not American, there is no reason not to sit down and at least watch the first star wars. Star wars us a pretty deeply rooted cultural thing. Not seeing it is like never playing baseball, or never eating a hamburger. You can go your entire life without doing so, but the only person you're hurting is yourself.
I watched psycho recently despite not liking old films cause they're boring, but I felt it really enriching to recognize the original version of so many things I've seen before.
