I don't have a problem with that, having favorites is completely natural, even among a cast of very unlikable people.
The only thing I take issue with is lying about other characters to defend your own, much like nearly every Asuka fan does.

The only zero-personality character in the show is Asuka, and shouting a lot doesn't change that.
Their backstories:

Born to a scientist mother who was part of the Evangelion scheme, she volunteers both of them and since then Asuka is trained to be NERV's EVA pilot. Through this process Asuka is severely traumatized through the apparent death of her mother.
When we reach the series start, Asuka is so indoctrinated that she cannot bear existing without piloting EVA. It's everything she thinks about and when she finally can't pilot any more, she attempts to take her own life and for all intents and purposes ends as a character, transitioning into being a plot device full time. From this point on Asuka is a passive character taking no decisions of her own, but is moved by others. She dies in EoE, to be raptured by Rei and finally revived in the end, saved by others.

Born in lab as a side-effect of attempting to revive Gendo's wife using EVA-technology, and for reasons explained by Ritsuko she is in reality Lilith, the Angel that borne mankind into life.
While the attempt to bring back Yui was a failure, Rei will still prove a useful asset to Gendo and is therefore made to pilot EVA and to be experimented on, apparently.
When we reach the series start, Rei has already died once just to be reincarnated in a new clone body, imprinting on Rei the notion that she's discardable, a trauma that dulls Rei's sense of being and attachment to others. However, Rei's development throughout the series is always fighting this, and by the end of the series Rei has made enough growth that she can reject and defeat Gendo, to reclaim her true heritage.
In short they children who since birth, adults and organizations have imprinted rather mercilessly a personality upon. They were to be useful and obedient.
Only Rei was able to acknowledge that and therefore defeat it. Only Rei's personailty was "hers", something she built.
