Just a guess but I am gonna say NOPE. Black then there was no internet or people obsessing over a fucking movie like people do now. People didnt really know who was cast as who or what their role could possibly be before the film came out. Today you know fucking most of the script before the movie is even out. Its actually a genius and not so genius at the same time marketing gimmick . People think they have seen most of hte movie from trailers and think they know how the plot is gonna unfold (more often they are right about the plot and story than not) BUT the curiosity of "am I right about this" will get people to go see it or watch it in some capacity. While it does give a movie like star wars a major opening sales, if the plot and movie are weak the film will not make as much the following weekend. Its kinda like an insurance policy for shitty film making. NOW this doesnt always work. Just look at the last terminator movie. It tried this tactic and it failed horribly . Again this only works for established franchises . Compare the trailers to the first Hunger games to the last. The last ones they tell you all kinds of shit in the trailer the first one not so much. They needed that franchiser to anchor itself inthe public so they can get that easy cash in money.
