Like it or not, it's what the first season's about, though I think it's only chosen because it's a form of egotism prominent in the small-town environment. That's why Molly is content not getting to put a bullet in Lester's head all gung-ho style, just happy that he's been proved guilty and tracked down and the case resolved. Even Molly's tumblrina fans complained about how she didn't get to take down the baddie in some kind of epic showdown at the end, completely missing the point. At the end of the finale, Gus gets a commendation for killing an incapacitated suspect. Molly gets to be Chief. Good character.
