Why did nobody in Alexandria point out the major design flaw in the wall? Or any of the actors? Or producers? Or set designers?

Did the construction team just build it backwards or something and everyone just decided "ah fuck it that'll do"?

Pic related, over 9000 hours in MS Paint
>>
>after 6 season there are still people who havent figured out that the characters in this show are absolutely retarded
>>
>>63324258

Why not just build settlements on really high places?
>>
The top design is fine. Assuming the support beam is bolted to both the ground and the wall securely, it will still hold the wall up. The only difference is that you get tension forces on the beam instead of compression.

Effectively, the top one "pulls" the wall against the zombies, and the bottom one "pushes" the wall against the zombies.
>>
>>63324473
le ebin high ground
>>
>>63324258
Why does it fucking matter? Even with the wall being designed like the top sketch, it still withstood the walkers at massive numbers like we saw. Walkers were easy as fuck to keep out. There was nothing they could do to stop that bell tower crushing the wall to bits, though. Even if it was reinforced from the inside, it still would have been destroyed. Did you even watch the fucking show beyond one episode this season?
>>
The Wallking Dead.
>>
Not only that, the Wolves were able to just walk right over the walls. I don't care if it's still structurally sound it just flies in the face of common sense when try to fortify a town.
>>
>>63324473
All memes aside, this. Find a hotel or any building with multiple floors, preferably with a pool on top to fill with water, and only use the fire escape to enter/exit. Completely block off all doors/stairs on the first floor and you're golden
>>
>>63324525
But the critical force of the first one is the force needed to pull out the bolts from the ground. For the second its either the compression of the supports or the lateral bending and breaking of the bolts, both of which far, far excede the first force. So they arent the same just the first one can maybe be fine too
>>
>>63324258
Why didn't they just drive one of the 30 cars that apparently still have gas 3 years later and honk a few times and lead them away? If they don't go for that they have what 20 fresh corpses? Slice them shits open and lead the zombies away with a trail of organs and blood

>>
>>63325424
Any proper fortified place has multiple tiers of defense walls as well as choke points/bottlenecks.
>>
>>63325553
Why would you fill it up with dirt? If the zombies can scale the walls (maybe like world war z) then you are only helping them. Why not make a giant 50 metre deep moat? It achieves the same thing with the first floor because it is still inaccessible but so is the second floor
>>
>>63325168

Maybe they don't want to spend the rest of their lives in a fucking building when literally they could settle anywhere else that is better than a fucking building among ruins, potentially anywhere in the world.
>>
>>63325525
Whats your point? The guy i replied to said "if the supports are bolted down". You can reasonably securely bolt down steel or wooden support beams into grassy land. Only you need very long bolts
>>
>>63325553
Ziplines only go one way, down.
>>
>>63324258
>Or set designers

I think it was done like that by the set designers. They have the wall in the background for almost every shot and tons of shots with actors near the wall or gates etc.

It's just waaaaay quicker to slap up a bunch of metal siding and hide the supports on the outside of the wall than have the support junk inside. You can just park a u-haul and brace the "movie wall" etc. It also gives more room to film, let them place the walls closer to the houses and allows for easy camera moves if you don't have to deal with support all over the place.

pretty much everything about the wall works, from a filming point of view, better with the supports on the outside.

>>
>>63325684
An earthen embankment can never ever be breached through or toppled over. Buildings can't take lateral pressures they are not designed for. Thus, you have to fill the inside as well as the outside. Technically, you don't need to fill the entire inside, just around the inside of the outer walls of the building where outside dirt places lateral forces on the inside.

I havent watched the show since the middle of s3 but do the zombies in any episode act coherently? Because rotting corpses could never breach even a thin wall they could only maybe hope to topple it over by the shear weight of a couple hundred walkers. So filling it with dirt seems unnecessary

Here's how you do it.

Build it like pic related. A stream of flowing water will be flowing outward from the fortress at all times, falling into a drainage basin that carries it back up into the castle. Surround the edges of the basin with thick walls curving outward away from the castle, with water constantly cascading down. On the outer perimeter of this wall is a large, empty moat about 50 feet deep. It has. A drainage basin where the water cascading form the wall is fed. The outer perimeter of this moat has another even higher wall but inward toward the moat. Finally another wall is added. A normal wall, but the ground behind the wall is trapped to where if enough weight falls on it, then it creates a second 50 foot moat

Finally those 4 corner rooms on the castle are where the snipers are

Just grab or build one of the old German anti air towers from WW2. Thick walls and you can easily seal off the first floor while having plenty of roof space to catch water or grow food. I would like to see zombies try and destroy structures designed to withstand aerial raids.

Or just a tank. There is no way zombies could ever get inside a tank and you will also fuck up any humans you meet along with mobility. Since you aren't worried about munitions being fired at you, you can safely put a huge gasoline tank, and an outer supply tank to hold beer and another for foodstuffs with feeds to the inside in case you need to wait around for a long time. Just drive from gas source to gas source running endless hordes of zombies over and if you ever need a break just drive it offroad out of an urban environment and find some middle of nowhere cabin to take breaks in.

A human can tear a hole in chain link fence if he tugs on it for a couple hours easily. A horde of zombies will start tearing up holes pretty quick and you might not be in a place to do repairs. With a tank you could go and sit in the most zombie dense area in the entire world, park and sit there for a week or a year and the tank would sustain no damage and you would have no risk of infection.
>>
>>63327184
Not probably. Definitely, since 90% of them are tourist attractions. But going out is piss easy when (in theory) the castle is surrounded with fertile (well, 400 years ago) land and in an elevated position that gives you 360º view of everything for miles. Hell, if it's a big one, there's likely a village inside with enough food for a while.
>>
>>63327260
Then weld some plate on the truck. The point is that is it so massive that you can pile several shipping containers on it and have a mobile bunker. It can hold 420 tons of weight easy.

>>63327313
Uses up a lot more gas, requires a stable road and how could you ever need to move 420 tons of stuff?

If you're trying to move around a tribe of people in just one vehicle sure but a tank won't require you to do extensive welding and work on it just to make it functional. You could drive it out of the factory and it would be complately 100% safe, anything added is just gravy.
>>
>>63327598
That's literally season 3. But like any sort of american construction that fence was made out of cheese sticks and a couple of dead people leaning on it took it out. Also, a tank.
>>
>>63325804
Because they were, middle of nowhere, and they'd never really seen massive numbers of zombies outside of major cities, and while they were at the farm the zombies they saw were far and few between

Some story is brought up in the comics when Dale demands they stay put at some farm they're staying at claiming they'll all be safe, then Rick runs in saying FUCK WE GOTS TA GO, since there's quite the horde following.
>>
>>63327610

Silent weapons. Ammo can be found everywhere (I the USA). 1,000s of rounds of ammo can be easily hauled around. Headshots with that caliber are enough. Halligan tool for melee, but more or less intended for everything else they can do. Like getting into anon's bunker and raping him.

The zombies are basically as smart, mobile, or teleporty as a given situation needs them to be for maximum drama.
>>
>>63325727
Easy. Have the escape zipline attached to medium sized building compared to yours and from have another one that goes back down to just above your walls. That way you can leave and enter at will without being trapped inside your building by the horde of zombies.
>>
>>63327673
Depends on your goals, there are significant advantages to being alone/very small group. less supplies will take you further and you won't have to cater to any weaker/injured/sick members.
>>
>>63325265
Wall made out of dumpsters.
>>
>>63327748
In >>63326210 and >>63325553 the walls are flat. They'd need to get over that. The embankment is from the inside, not the outside.

>>63327788
If you are trying to cover ground (or writing a TV series and don't want to pay 200 regular-time actors), yeah, a smaller group is better. But, in all things regarding human history, banding together has been our greatest advantage.
>>
>>63327788
>>63327673
A container ship would be sweet though, I'm still sticking with tank for land vehicles but a ship of that huge size would probably be ideal. Very easy to live on and you could find an uninhabited island to live on pretty easily.
>>
>>63327779
True, also beats ratcheting back up a zipline. Good idea anon.

>>63327853
You could also fill a good bit of a container ship with these and support a ton of people. You could even take your tank with you on board.
>>
>>63325916
Because it was built before the happening. The better question is why didn't they bother to spare a couple more panels and build around it. I mean they already covered the whole damn town.
>>
>>63327788
There's an optimal number for sure, but being alone is always a disadvantage, but having too many on the move is just as bad.

A mobile group I'd say a group of 4-6 is optimal, enough to separate, have a rotating watch, enough to have someone carry someone else, ect.

>You could drive it out of the factory and

Tanks require a shit ton of maintenance and support to keep rolling. Highly trained support and a very specialized level of parts. You can't just roam around in one like it's a honda and have zero problems for 20k+ miles. Could an average person with zero military training even get a tank started and moving?

no if you want to keep moving around Walking Dead S1 style you need a convoy of modern level machines with a mix of bomb proof older tech like say 70s small block chevy/ford trucks. Something where parts are redundant between different vehicles and are easy to keep running. You move around and find a place a little safe, then move again if it gets bad.

but just 3 modern 4x4 trucks outfitted with camper shells and maybe a small trailer would be better then a tank.

With everyone dead fuel isn't going to be a problem. The amount of fuel already sitting around in depots, trucks, gas stations etc. would be enough to sustain the survivors for generations. People burn through like 10 million barrels of gas a day across the earth and the infastructure is there to support that. If that all stops then that still means there are probably around 100 millions barrels distrubted through out the planet which will last several lifetimes.

Why don`t they build something like this, and go once a week around, making smashed zombie poo?
>>

You don't live in America do you? There's vegetable fuel everywhere in every fast food joint.

Besides, by the time shit like that goes bad you should have your vehicles converted to woodgas. Then you can use anything from plastic to wood to fuel your vehicles.

In the comic the prison had a formidable system of heavy duty fences that were only breached by a tank. They even used the zombie horde as a defense against the Governor who was trying to take it over as the couldn't invade without going through the horde.

In the show it was a simple chain link fence that the zombies eventually pushed over lol.
>>
>>63328632
Because the second time they go to use it, it'll be after some celebration party and the driver will be all drunk and wreck it and get eaten.
>>
>>63328632

Because it would reveal how stupid the zombie world is, a couple of tractors would vanish them in half an hour.
>>
>>63328584
Nah dog, that's murphy's law.

The show is ignoring a lot of things that would happen in the situation due to budget. Like if a horde were pressing up against a solid structure, the innermost zombies would be crushed while the outermost would start stepping on them, creating a fleshmound so they could eventually just walk up your flat walls.

>woodgas
The absolute best return on that is about a mile per pound. So a tank would be something like 5-10 pounds per mile. Which would further reduce the more wood you tried to pull to keep going.
>>
>>63325422
Either:
1) Supernatural zombies
2) Bacteria and flies and stuff naturally avoid eating zombie flesh, so decomposition is extremely slow
>>
>>63328086
Just hang out close to shore where you can do raids for supplies. Even if the engine dies you have an offshore fortress. Why would you go out to deep sea/ waste fuel?
>>
>>63328798
>murphy's law.

Only exists in entertainment media. Life isn't like that. Bodies also don't stack well and they won't be dying or getting as crushed as you'd like. They are not like the ones in WWZ for instance.
>>
>>63328857
>no anon nothing works ever

Fuck off contrarian. Here's a woodgas tank.

In the comic the first thing Rick's group does is re-inforce the wall with huge dirt piles (which also allows them to walk the wall easily), dig fucking huge trenches/moats, and use cars and barbed wire to slow/stagger zombies that approach the wall

The first thing they do in the show is dumb shit at the quarry (instead of just burning them all while they're stuck in the one area)

You know suppressors don't work in real life like they do on TV and in the movies, right?

A gun with a suppressor is still pretty fucking loud

They don't do that until AFTER No Way Out.
>>
>>63329108
A .22lr makes a sound less than the sound of you fapping when suppressed. They are extremely quite. I know this from personal experience and listening to you fapping.
>>
>>63328956
This. Comics had way better defences. At least they finally gave Rick his hatchet I guess.

Also I wish they just showed what happened in the mid season finale. Comic fans will know what I'm talking about.

To be fair I do make a LOT of noise when fapping

And as I've pointed out, they don't do anything for the defenses beyond a lookout until after the horde breaks in and they dispatch it.

Can't post webms with sound on /tv/, newfag.
>>
>>63325265
The catch, it can't be too good that the people fighting zombies storyline is reduced

Now you know what it feels like to be a TWD storywriter
>>
>>63329228
Luckily, tanks can carry 1,000s of pounds of wood.

Shit anon, just grow your own coppice of trees on the top of the tank and you never run out of fuel.
>>
>>63329278
I'm talking overall. I can't wait to see what the show does to "improve" the walls this time around. They already fucked up Negan. I don't even want to see what his compound looks like.

All that being said.. I still enjoy the show for what it is but I get pissed off all the time watching it.
>>
>>63328899
>murphy's law only exists in entertainment media

... yea, its not a principle of engineering or anything.
>>
>>63326755
Noise, fuel, maintenance. Nope.
>>
>>63329350
I think what I'd do is have the clan of people be excellent at bunkering against zombies, leaving them to go about normal life inside the compound.

Then I'd fast forward a generation. Their society would be built up around killing zombies for sport and honor and competing with other clans. They'd go out to fight because they want to.
>>
>>63325168
The cops did this, in the hospital.
>>
>>63329082
>That's not a very mobile vehicle and they can easily get on your sides.

You reinforce the doors and just keep driving, besides is not to move like a car, just go around your walled city, reducing to pulp the zombies outside, you can use it when you have already a big concentration of zombies.
>>
>>63329417
It really isn't.
>>
>>63329387
The point you're dodging is the manhours involved in converting trees into thousands of pounds of chunked wood to keep your woodgas tank running that day.
>>
>>63329340
I didn't even watch it desu. Just assumed you didn't know how to post. Mobile shitposting senpai.
>>
>>63329458
You can burn plastic for fuel too. Also you don't need trees. Anything made of wood will do. Just run over it with the tank and pick up the pieces.

Luckily, we wouldn't have to put up with your kind. You'd never figure out how to open a door, let alone how to survive without cell service.
>>
>>63329494
It is a visual example of what I'd imagine a tank firing shit would look like. It fills me with mirth. I wish you to be filled with mirth too, mobile anon.
>>
>>63329432
Not relatable enough

Literally everyone who watches this show spends a lot of time thinking what they would do if they are in this situation. Literally everyone fantasizes about how they would have their own group and make some settlement, and how they would do it, and possibly how they would interact with Rick's group if they come across

If you skip a generation (or a few), you enter the type of post-apocalyptic scene, where the apocalyptic event happened decades, even centuries ago, and while that is interesting in it's own way, it isn't the same sub-genre as TWD, and it won't have what makes TWD famous
>>
>>63329557
Make it so Twitter and Facebook are still around and the audience can interact with the actors during the show.

>problem solved
>>
>>63329405
They haven't even fucked up Negan yet, the meeting of his crew is basically the same just with a different group meeting instead.
>>
>>63329498
I get that all of this is working perfectly in your very limited imagination, where nothing ever goes wrong and you can just run down forests with your tank for fuel, but goddamn man, at some point you have to realize how stupid you are.
>>
>>63328524
I love this fucked up rock we live on
>>
>>63329608
No anon, not forests, houses in suburbia. They are made of wood and it just needs a tank to run over it to make it fuel-sized. It'd also be fun as shit.

Wait, you're not sperging out on me are you?
