I personally hated how The Doctor was essentially Clara's pussywhipped friend.
Danny Pink didn't help either. His actor's great but his character is shit.
However Series 8 had some seriously phenomenal episodes. Listen, Orient Express and Flatline were fucking amazing.
The worst part about Series 8 though was the Finale - Death in Heaven. It's so fucking underwheming. How the flying fuck do Billions of Cybermen end up being boring?

Well there's obvious classism. Normal Gallifreyans even have Triple-Strand DNA, but they're still considered "peasants" living outside of the Capital city.
Only the Time Lords live in the Capitol City. I don't think normal Gallifreyans have ever been shown in depth - Hell Bent may be the first time this is shown.
Normal Gallifreyans would probably be seen as the lower dregs of society, plebians who aren't worth mentioning. It's part of the reason why the Doctor left Gallifrey in the first place - for all their supposed responsibility and goodwill, the Time Lords are pricks of the highest order.
IIRC The Sphere is part of the whole "Bigger on the Inside" thing - the Time Lord's whole shtick.
