I'll admit I'm biased because I grew up on it, but I rewatched it recently. Watching The Wiz Live yesterday also made me appreciate the movie more.
The costumes, musical arrangements, actors (except Diana), and set design are great. The empty New York City is eerie and I'm not sure if it fits the story, but I love it. It creates the unfamiliar feeling of a different world.
I don't know why people hate it, even Sidney Lumet hated it.
All of them. You can't truly enjoy a movie coming at it from the mind of a critic. You must have the eyes of an artist.
