by contrast, mothra has the family being interesting, but the villian is a cardbaord Kenji sahara from 1964, and miki really has no need to be in the movie, shes just deadweight. its preahy about the enviornment but really theres no follow though, somthing hedorah (as high as that movie was), actually did

the special effects are no worse than other 90s movies. tail tip falls? the water suits and close up faces in mothra and mg2 dont even match. space scene? king ghidroah and destroayh fly worse than the showa era monsters. destroyah literaly uses bandai figs in one scene. the f15 fighter jet scene, while cool, ages pretty bad with ghidorah's animatronic (if it were rodan fine, but not a giant un aerodynamic dragon).
i actually thought the characters had banter and dialogue that made them feel alot more like actual people, also miki got to actually do something (liek in biollante and MG2)

I kinda agree. For me KKvsG is a movie that seems better when I read about it, but every time I watch it, the enjoyment's minimal. Wish it was either more ridiculously comedic or more serious, but as it is, it just rests in that awkward middle ground. Though I guess I'd appreciate the comedic aspects more if I actually had the same sort of exposure to these actors and the socio-economical atmosphere in general as the Jap audiences back then.
And I'd appreciate the movie as a whole more if the effects weren't so cruddy even by Toho's standards. That King Kong suit is the visual equivalent of the taste you get when you force your acidic vomit back down.
