Why would corporate billionaires care about rookie newspaper journalists, let alone know them by name and engage them in extended conversation like they're in the same league?

Lex knowing who Clark Kent is would be a huge mess to write around.
>>
>>63295332
Even so, it's stupid to say their names together like that as if it's a meeting everyone's been anticipating.

This is also why secret identities are stupid.
>>
>>63295386
I imagine it would take the public about 2 seconds to figure out they're the same guy.

With Superman, that problem is compounded by the fact that he doesn't even wear a mask.

>Lex Luthor is a young executive that's very savvy about having a good reception in media
>Daily Planet famous for its investigative journalists
>Lex would probably be very wary of every journalist in its employ
>Clark Kent typically uses his reporter persona to investigate scenarios to augment his Superman activities
>Clark knows government is monitoring his activities
>Clark would likely know that both Lexcorp and Wayne Industries build stuff for the government(with one of the Wayne satellites used to monitor him), and would likely follow up on any other things the two companies would be building for the government(e.g. anti-Superman weaponry)

DC universe people are stupid. Lois didn't know for far too long, for a brilliant investigative journalist.
Supposedly Supes is able to do little things like subtly vibrate his facial muscles to avoid being photographed clearly, compressing his spine as Clark to appear shorter than Supes, etc.
But none of that explains Lois, or Lex not figuring it out.

Believe it or not, Disney lied to you -- not all rich people are evil. People are people. Even people with bigger bank accounts can admire authors, poets, artist, and even journalist. Maybe he was fond of Clark's articles?

Maybe he woke up everyday, opened his paper, and saw Clark Kent's name under all his favorite pieces. "I agree with that man. Wonder if I can talk to him one day in person?" Having money doens't disqualify him from being interested in a another man's work.

Because in comic books everyone is an unrealistic near omniscent genius and trying to portray that in a movie would make the caharcter too much of a gary stu and would break our suspension of disbelief when the supposedly super genius acts irrationally or does something stupid because the script demands it so the plot can advance

Just because bruce in the nolan movies had lucius design his gadgets doesnt make him an idiot. It makes sense that he wouldnt have the time to design his gadgets with his patrols detective work training and recovering and keeping up appearences as bruce wayne. I agree that there arent any examples of him displaying genius level intelligence in the nolan verse at least. The bullet reconstruction was more of him utilizing an advanced technology than a display of intelligence. That being said I'm personally fine with batmannot being some gifted genius as long as he comes of as at least highly intelligent however, afterall most of his detective work is him using his supercomputet and gadgets and not logical deductions. For a character like luthor though it is essential that he comes off as a genius and not some autistic twink because his intellect is even more key to his character than it is for batman. Hopefully what we saw in the trailer was just the public lex luthor persona

I personally like it. It feels like an evolution of the Lex Luthor in the cartoons, the charismatic businessman persona they crafted for the 80s.

He's gotta be this kind of guy that has a good public persona to hide the fact that he's actually a supervillain, and what's that gonna be? Maybe not the sleazy playboy Tony Stark/Oliver Queen persona that Bruce Wayne sometimes used.

More of a 21st century 40 under 40 type. Gets rich off startups. Probably started his business while in college like the Google guys or Zuckerberg. Socially savvy enough, but puts up more of a dorky, awkward public persona, the kind of guy that feels grounded and approachable whether it's awkwardly giving a speech on stage, crashing a conversation at a party or just throwing out self-deprecating humor on a twitter or reddit Q&A.

The explanation I always liked was that no one knows Superman has a secret identity. He doesn't wear a mask and everyone knows he's Kal-El the last son of Krypton so they have no reason to suspect he hiding anything and every chalks Clark's similarities up to coincidence. Its not a great explanation but its good enough for me.

I'm sure the comics have come up with several reasons (I think in All Star he can even go from muscle to fat looking at will), but in the Christopher Reeve movies he does subtle changes in his face and movements and stuff.

See to me the two of them look genuinely different.

Similar, but perhaps enough to keep a low profile. Perhaps it's also because, whilst tall and wide, Chris Reeves wasn't stupidly ripped / huge like the new Superman is.

I actually laughed at the end of Man of Steel when the supposedly 'bumbling' Clark Kent walked into the Daily Planet with his glasses on, muscles nearly tearing through his shirt, and everyone was like "oh yeah no totally normal, look at that weird quite nerd who in no way looks like he just stepped off a most-muscular abercrombie and fitch catalog."
>>
>>63301090
To be fair though, Clark Kent isn't a skinny nerd. He's a farmboy who's spent his life doing farm shit and tipping cows, being kinda muscley-fat wouldn't be implausible.

Maybe a small fat(chubby?) suit to pull it off in live action?

This is what makes Superman's "Secret Identity" so annoying. With Peter Parker/Spider-Man, it makes sense. Spider-Man wears a mask and a full suit (so people don't even know his skin color, let alone what his face looks like). But Superman and Clark Kent have the exact same fucking face. When did he say everyone billionaire must be that way? Do you know how to read!
>>
>>63298637
No one cared who he was till he put on the glasses.
>>
>>63298465

That sounds dumb as fuck. I love it when writers try to portray their characters as smart and then show it through some retarded child's idea of what intelligent people are like.
>>
>>63298637

The Reeves Superman did it best.

Clark was a bumbling, clumsy nerd with huge glasses and a bad hairstyle. Even if he admitted to being Superman, no one would believe it.
>>
>>63306096

Like in Sherlock, where being a genius apparently means being able to read minds.
>>
>>63300433
>Probably started his business while in college like the Google guys or Zuckerberg.

Holy shit it makes sense that the writers made this incarnation of Lex Luthor a copy of Zuckerburg
>>
>>63300545

Huh. Makes sense to me for some reason.
>>
>>63298637

I read somewhere that Superman vibrates his face so that he would not be recognizable as Kent, most plausible reason for me.
>>
>>63300662

I'm okay with this. Bring on the hot Asian assistants. Just got done reading Carrion Comfort. This trope has been around for a long fucking time and it's delicious
>>
>>63305942
It's a great piece of dialogue though. I don't know why you'd be so against it. This is isn't about art. It's just entertainment fag.
>>
>>63306123
Yeah...that was obvious from the beginning when they cast him idiot.

>marriage is about the hottest chick you can marry

You will perpetually be 12 years old based on your current attitude.
>>
>>63306121

Exactly. None of these writers are actually smart themselves, so they can't write it. Instead they just jump straight into fantasy bullshit, throw in a big word every three lines dialogue or so and call it good. I watched that show and was completely baffled that this was the shit everybody was raving about. It's a fucking cartoon
>>
>>63306205
You really didn't get it? He's just coming from filming the social network. He's played a billionaire who got his money through a website. Everyone knows this. Are you that dense?
>>
>>63306224

I know, I mean being so obvious that it threw me off completely. Also I just watched Social Network months ago probably after Eisenberg was cast to have some idea how he acts.
>>
>>63306207
>marrying any woman at all
>not marrying a bumbro

seriously?
it's almost 2016
get smart
>>
>>63306224

Not that guy but how typecasted do you have to be that people are actually altering iconic roles to fit that typecast? Will Eisenberg ever break out it? Prolly not because he's a mediocre talent
>>
>>63306260
He's very typecasted. I never argued that.
>>
>>63306254
Perpetually 12 years old. Seriously.
>>
>>63306260

BvS will probably his big breakoff film
>>
>>63306248
And? Are you so isolated you didn't see a single trailer for the movie?

Don't be an ignoramus. We've seen him play the asshole facebook guy so it's obvious when they cast him who he would play.
>>
>>63295437
If the big twist is Lex is the Joker, then it makes sense, Joker wouldn't want to reveal who they are, what the hell is the fun in that?
>>
>>63306289

I know I know I'm not arguing. I'm just marveling at how typecasted he is. Even in a movie role which any other actor would use as an opportunity to branch out and defy expectations, he's still playing the same motherfucker
>>
>>63306301
But he's just playing Lex Zuckerbeg. He's doing the same shit he's always done.
>>
>>63295294
Easy they knew each other beforehand OR Clark did a newspaper piece on Lex.
>>
>>63306336
Hollywood is a business. If he plays a rich asshole people recognize then that's how he'll be cast.
>>
>>63306321

That is almost the dumbest theory ever. Not as dumb as Sith jar jar, but dumber than Batfleck is not Bruce Wayne
>>
>>63295294
Because he's one of the smartest people on the planet. He can't help but know and remember who people are.
>>
>>63306212
Only idiots ever liked Sherlock.

Even Elementary is better, which is saying something.
>>
>>63306363

Fucking duh
>>
>>63306384
But then he treats them meeting each other like it's supposed to be a big deal.
>>
>>63306395
Then why marvel or be surprised?

Inb4 LEL DAT WAS NOT MEE
>>
>>63306433

It's an exceptional case you gay bitch.
>>
>>63306353

BvS is more serious than Social Network (hopefully)
>>
>>63295441

Lex knows who they both are and they don't know who the other is. He is messing with them.

Why is this hard for you?
>>
>>63306507
Because that's just speculation on your part and still wouldn't change how stupid the scene is.
>>
>>63306506
>prestige pic directed by fincher written by working
>desperate capeshit attempt to reboot a franchise while piggybacking another mediocre reboot on top of it

I'd say social network was his breakout and this is him cashing in
>>
In sweden we had a famous rapist.

He was an ultra manlet, with super tiny feet. He operated for like 5 years, co-workers joked about him matching the discription but nothing happened.
>>
>>63306507

They both obviously know who the other truly is in that scene. What they don't know is that Lex is the true enemy and he's turning them against each other.
>>
>>63306563

You can get famous for raping in Sweden?
>>
>>63306604
Only if you are white. Blacks can rape for decades without punishment or fame, it's unfair to PoC.
>>
>>63295294
More importantly, why did the trailer reveal the plot of the whole fucking film.
>>
>>63306487
In no way is it an "exceptional" case you idiot. It's an actor who's known at the moment as a rich asshole in movies.
>>
>>63306687
Because trailers do that often. Are you that stupid?
>>
>>63306688

It's very very exceptional. You obviously don't know much about this topic.
>>
>>63306682

I'm not sure how to respond
>>
>>63306721
It's exceptional that an actor recently was cast as a rich asshole and then cast again as such.

You're a retard.

You just can't admit you were being idiotic. Do what you want. We both know how this went down.
>>
>>63306719

>Are you that stupid?

You talk like a bratty teenage girl
>>
>>63306738

It's okay to cry sometimes. Let it all out
>>
>>63306748
Do you have teenage girls call you stupid a lot? You lead a very pathetic life.
>>
>>63306764
We both know how this went down. You were wrong and the only one crying is you. Keep whining. We both know.
>>
>>63306775

You don't know what my life is
>>
>>63306794
Well I know that aspect of it if you bring that up.
>>
>>63306787

Shhh...it'll be alright. You don't have to act brave
>>
If Superman is going to be an interesting character, he's going to need to be vastly toned down in power
>>
>>63306807

You're making some huge assumptions and you know what they say about those
>>
>>63306826

Superman will never be an interesting character
>>
>>63306826

Superman is Superman, leave that alone, it's Clark Kent Daily Planet reporter they will probably focus on making more interesting.
>>
>>63306850

Clark Kent Daily Planet Reporter will never be an interesting character
>>
>>63295332
Or maybe Kent has been picking up steam writing about the way Wayne enterprises is doing business and overall writing things against the Batman. Lex is most likely just trolling them.
>>
>>63295294
I thought that type of behavior was considered "Normal" by normal "Standards".
>>
>>63299881

He really shines in shit movies.
>>
>>63306850
Clark Kent is supposed to be a boring square on purpose so that no one suspects that he might be an alien demigod

The problem is that he gets so ridiculously powerful due to writers literally making up new powers for him as they go, that a secret identity becomes obsolete

It's going to raise suspicion when Clark Kent has been a reporter at the Daily Planet for 80 years and still looks like he's 40
>>
>>63306959

Everything you said is wrong and dumb.
>>
>>63298637
What would you even do about it, shoot some guy at your office to prove he's actually superman?
>>
>>63307005
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powers_and_abilities_of_Superman

A lot of his powers are straight-up pulled out of a writer's ass as needed

When Superman can hear everything that's happening in the world(or even sometimes on OTHER WORLDS[that's right, he can HEAR THROUGH THE VACUUM OF SPACE]), does he really need to pretend to be a reporter to gather information? He can just chill in his fortress of solitude and listen to pins dropping on the moon

Superman should be strong, yes, but when you're basically God, do you REALLY need a secret identity?
>>
>>63298637
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIaF0QKtY0c
>>
Since Superman's identity as Clark Kent is now public knowledge in the DC Universe, any chance the do the same in the cinematic universe?
>>
>>63307205
I don't know because this is probably going to be the last DC movie
>>
>>63307262
That would be so embarrassing
>>
>>63307205
This isn't the MCU anon. Other than Wonder Woman suddenly guest starring in a bunch of different titles, there's barely any synergy between the two products

>>
>>63295294

He's from Metropolis. Clark is from Metropolis. Clark writes for the Daily Planet, one of the biggest news outlets in the world. He probably talks about shit Lexcorp does.

If you invite someone to a party, you try to remember the influential people that are coming. Maybe he wants Clark to interview him for the Daily Planet.
>>
Does Lois Lane knew Clarke was Superman at the end of MoS?
>>
>>63307262
How long until next reboot then?
>>
>>63306827
It's not an assumption if you're telling me what teenage girls sound like. Obviously you know what they sound like calling you stupid.

Unless you lied.

Why didn't they just get Clarence Williams III to play Lex? Seems like the obvious choice to me.
>HELLO BOYYYYS!
>>
The fact that Clark Kent isn't a bumbling clumsy idiot speaks for Snyder's sensibilities. He can't have his heroes be anything else than manly as fuck and awesome at all times. Not that that's a bad thing, I'm tired of seeing all these pathetic manlets and kucks in Marvelshit

I'm curious what happened to this theory, now that it's completely and utterly BTFO.

Seems like someone did a lot of work to make it look like this wasn't the case.
>>

They both so very fucking clearly know who the other is.

This comment has to be a fucking troll.
>>
>>63300545
This. Even if someone noticed the similarities between them (Clark-Superman) it'd be like: "Hey dude, you kinda look like that Superman guy", the same way we do it IRL with celebrities.

How the fuck does Clark Kent not know who Bruce Wayne is? It's implied here that each knows the other's identity but a second ago he didn't know him at all. And if Superman had a problem with Batman he would have just dealt with him in an instant before they ever met.

Reeve would go for a lunch to a nearby place, sometimes as Superman, sometimes as Kent and people would not recognize him when as Kent

Jackman as a joke once went to a Con in a cosplay of Wolverine. Not only nobody has recognized him, people called his cosplay shitty, because he is too tall.

NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU if you think people would instantly recognize you are Superman if you were Superman, you are dead wrong

What a disastrous decision.

my hype for the movie died because of him.
