I've got the perfect idea for a RPG game /who/.

>Your character is a Time Lord coming of age.
>Opening chapter is on Gallifrey before the Time War.
>It includes your family (based on your created character) and their home.
>Your character is a Gallifreyan who is about to graduate Time Lord Academy
>However you don't get to choose your Title.
>Instead, Rassilon personally congratulates you for being the top graduate.
>Gives you a Brand New TARDIS as a result.
>He also secretly tasks you with exploring the universe and catalouging it.
>He names you "The Cartographer"
>The main game is essentially a universal sandbox
>Each Planet has its own story elements which are initialized once you interact with certain elements of the planet.
>The actual story missions begin after you piece together clues regarding the said elements.
>They usually involve something simple like stopping genocide, helping a community, etc.
>You can play the entire game without attacking once. Pacifist runs are possible.
>Direct TARDIS piloting works like No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen rolled into one.
>TARDIS vortex travel works more like Universe Sandbox or fast travel.
>You can only vortex travel to regions in space you've already mapped.

Who-based Battlefront game with various factions

>Time Lords are the pompous fucks with OP shit like time looping and de-mat guns. They regen after death every time.
>Daleks can float and 1-hit KO most infantry units.
>Sontarans still have their glaring weakness behind their neck. Have the most extensive arsenal.
>Weeping Angels are random enemies dropped into the area. Eye meters are introduced during this mode.
>Space Battles are in the game, including Time War era WarTARDISes and Dalek Saucers.
>All 13 versions of the Doctor are playable, as well as the Master Rassilon, Omega, Rani and other Time Lords
>Al factions have their own special fighters as well.

I feel that combating enemies would involve lots of running, or using the environment against them. Perhaps returning to Gallifrey every now and again to pick up blueprints for new devices you can make out of scavenged junk.

Reminds me, Part 2

>As you progress the story, your reputation among various races increases.
>This reputation is relayed back to Gallifrey via your TARDIS. As a result, Rassilon begins to unlock access to more advanced Time Lord technology for you.
>Sonic screwdrivers are customizable and are able to be equipped with various functions.
>You will have random encounters with dangerous enemies depending on your location in the Universe, i.e. Weeping Angels, Cybermen, etc.
>It's your job to spend Time in your TARDIS Library reading up on these enemies, finding their weaknesses prepping gear, etc. Otherwise you're fucked.
>You can always return back to Gallifrey at any point, as the TARDIS is the only thing that can bypass the Transduction Barrier.
>The climax of the game is the Time War
>Depending on your reputation you can get one of 3 multiple endings.
>1 - Help Rassilon initiate the Ultimate Sanction, kill everything and become a God.
>2 - Run away like The Master, hide on Earth as Gallifrey burns
>3 - Aid the Doctor, all 13 of his incarnations to stop the Daleks from destroying Gallifrey

Well okay, how about following the nature of what the TARDIS does in the show, in that the journey is random. You have no choice of where to go at first. It's just flinging you about the universe, at varying points of its history.

Only when you've found somewhere, can you lock it, so that it's in the TARDIS databanks and can be returned to, a la fast travel.

Regenerating would be fucking awesome, getting to chose an entirely new personality and skill-set when you die.

But there'd have to be a penalty attached, you'd have to lose something, progress-wise, basically starting over from scratch as far as "leveling" your character goes.

Or how about buffs that you can't get to choose Random elements the game picks for you each time that can have positive or negative effects, like an increase in clumsiness, or more charismatic.
>>
>>63292410
Nah, i wouldn't enjoy that. Id go really really edgy and make a timesplitters type game.

>Play as the so called "Last Companion".
>War Doctor's companion who leaves when he finds out the Doctor was there when his girlfriend died(Cass)
>time lords have offered you the chance to save Cass by going through missions based on Doctor Who episodes that suddenly have timewar backgrounds or implications
>first level is human resistance during dalek invasion of earth, meeting with susan while she is away from the doctor
>second is blowing up cybermen on Telos who are fightig 8, Lucie and the Headhuntress in office buildings
>third is shooting up Ogrons with the Brigadier during the Day of the Daleks
>fourth you shoot up the sontarans invading gallifrey during the invasion of time as the fourth doctor prepares the demat gun.

Each level would have a strategic element. You would start with a strategy map aiming where to place guards against incoming forces.

The levels would be linear levels, but with points where you can jump back in time where you are to progress througn a level at an earlier or later time period and help yourself out. Each level would have good and bad endings, some triggered by your skill, others by your choices, and every time you let a canon ending happen there becomes a greater chance Cass stays dead until the end when you face the War Doctor in the vault infront of the moment box and have to choose whether to let him have it or shoot him, in which he'll die slipping by you and just use it right then and there, regenerating into 9 and negating the day of the doctor as he zips off.

My house had burned down and insurance was slowing the rebuilding process and every day I had to pass by where my house was on the way to work. I felt lied to by the insurance company, but worse still I felt exhausted; led past a spot where home used to be, frustrated that not only was I homeless, but that I'd never get there.

Feels were more real than tennant crying to his girlfriend in the sky.

There is one other problem with a game using the TARDIS. It's meant to be flown with multiple Timelords in mind. The Doctor is unique in the fact he does 99.9% of the piloting himself.

A few things, 1-2, 5-6, 6-7 were all glowing effects, the only difference being color. 8-war was the same kind of glowing effect, it wasn't until war-9 it started to get more intense. Seeing how it kept getting more and more intense it could just be a gradual increase in energy. 11's reset was the largest we've seen, but the actual regeneration into his new cycle was very mild. If this is the case, since he is on a new cycle 12-13 should be rather small.

Another theory might have to do with reluctance. The more reluctant the Doctor is to regenerating the more the regeneration energy has to force it. If you notice all the NuWho regenerations happened when he was fully conscious and even standing up. 9 was short lived, and despite putting on a smile he might have wanted to remain. We all know 10's broke the fucking TARDIS, and 11's reset was unknown territory for him. He was breaking the cycle and he was probably terrified. Once the reset occurred he was fully embracing the next regeneration, and we see very little intensity when he actually regenerates. Now looking back at the classics, for the most part he was barely conscious or unconscious, he couldn't do much in the way of fighting it. The most intense being 5-6, in which he thought he was dying. We also never saw 2-3, but given the way 2 was acting it's possible his was just as intense as some of the newer Doctors.
>>
>>63294447
I thoroughly dislike a majority of the things he has done, I don't particularly mind his individual episodes but I hate his arcs.

River song was introduced on 31 May 2008 with silence in the library.
Her story was finally played out on 4 June 2011 with a good man goes to war.

It took 3, years real world time to find out what was going on with her, what was the result? She was the companions daughter. The companion's fucking daughter. I wasted 3, years of my life for that shit, it took three fucking years for that arc to resolve and the resolution was shit.

Call me a pleb, call me a casual, but I prefer RTD's one series arcs, I don't like waiting 3 years for Moffat to finally squeeze his shit into my mouth.
>>
>>63294644
I still don't know why Capaldi didn't just regenerate and blast the wall with the energy and then use his new body to reset the teleporter, printing out his old self, he could have saved a hundred billion years, literally.
>>
>>63294599
It's already giving me Voyage Of The Damned vibes.
>>
>>63294728
the doctor sucks at regenerating
>>
>>63294759
He could have just regenerated after being killed by the veil, even if it took a month that's still a hundred billion years shorter than it did take.

Refusing to just regenerate and get out of there instantly was 10th Doctor levels of vein narcissism.
>>
>>63294728
>>63294759
And don't forget his post-regeneration is usually disoriented. If he managed to get back to the teleporter or remember who he is and what he's doing, why would he want to kill himself for an older version of himself. He'd probably want to keep his new body.
>>
>>63294728
The confession dial is like null-space, it's a method of disabling the regeneration cycle to extract information from a Timelord.
>>
>>63294644
>since he is on a new cycle 12-13 should be rather small.
not really since he's still building on the previous ones

>>63294672
I guess I didn't find River's story arc that boring(mainly cause i started watching in 2013 so i binged it) but its definitely not GOAT material and yea I respect your opinion, I like a lot of episodes from both. Since we talking about different opinions, I personally don't enjoy rose too much I thing she was a good companion but the love thing didn't really fit the show IMO.
>>
>>63294221
Doctor Who in general is this, minus the soap opera.
>>
Ok guys, here's the straight dope.

Clara is the hybrid, 12 brings her back and she's half Time Lord. If the Time Lords hadnt' tried to trap the Doctor to get information on the Hybrid it never would have happened.

Yes, it's another shitty bootstrap paradox but that's Moffat
>>
>>63294221

>>
>>63294813
He couldn't regenerate after being killed by the veil. He said even if the body is to weak to regenerate every cell will still try.

>>63294850
>not really since he's still building on the previous ones
The only thing I base that on is the fact 11-12 was practically nothing. he glowed a little bit but basically snapped into his new body like it was nothing. Personally I like my other theory better, I feel it fits more with the whole process of dying and fear changing, plus using more energy because he's running low on regens doesn't make as much sense.

Don't get me wrong, Moffat can really write some amazing single shit, Blink, Doctor dances, girl in the fire place, heaven sent, but NEVER EVER let him be show writer, he shits up the series by trying to be clever and intricate, he can write amazing solo stuff but if you ever give him an arc he'll shaft you in all orafices.
>>

>>
>>63293849
>implying if Bethesda made a Doctor Who RPG you would not play it
>>
>>63294221
Granted. But it did wonders. It got people interested in Who again.

Sure there was a lot of cheap, dumb shit, but there were elements of genius, some really good episodes, and the slow build of incorporating stuff from classic DW (and I don't mean the monsters) didn't overwhelm new viewers. The use of Tennant as eye candy propelled the show into the realms of "well, we can't fucking cancel this now."

By the time of Smith things started to get less camp, less romantic and far more weird. Fangirls fell away in droves, while classic Who lovers began to salivate.

Now Capaldi is knocking it out of the park and we're starting to see them play with ideas that push the concept a little. Is it perfect? Course not. But if Heaven Sent is any indication the future looks pretty bright.

Unless Clara'ss the person who ancient Time Lords in the past saw prophecy is just prophecy. Especially since it apparently pointed to a Time Lord Dalek hybrid and not human/Time Lord that Clara would be
>>
>>63295215
*saw, prophecy is just prophecy
>>
>>63294927
But 12 confessed he knew what/who/where the hybrid was to the Veil. If Clara was the hybrid he would have to have known he would be bringing her back for that to be true, which means he would known he would bring her back before being taken by the Time Lords, which means it would have happened regardless of them taking him and not because.

The Doctor was created for a purpose, they used Dalek guts to engineer the fucker.

When he learned this he ran from Gallifrey and wiped his own memories. He's utterly confused about everything before this, to the point that he thinks Susan was his Granddaughter.

He's an experiment basically, a Timelord with all the ferocity of a Dalek. But he rebelled. At least until he met the sisterhood, who forced him to accept his true nature as the War Doctor.

He's not bringing Clara back as a timelord, he's aiming for something else.

This had to be off-topic now but call me a normie or whatever, but I loved Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim and I'm enjoying 4 just as much. They have flaws and are glitchy as fuck but are a fun time killer.

A Doctor Who game in a fully open world with RPG elements would be heaven. I think the problem game designers have when it comes to making games for Doctor Who it's hard as the main character doesn't actively harm/kill his opponents. Someone would have to think hard to come up with mechanics and gameplay that would be interesting while having an actual story. Sadly most games have been shit under the Who license.

Interesting theory floating around regarding the Daleks.

When Clara's inside the shell the last time, she can't get it to express positive emotions, all of it is transformed into evil cuntspeech.

Does this mean the blobs inside, the actual Daleks are trying to be nice guys sometimes? They're not evil, they're just being forced by Davros' sick engineering.

Slightly relevant, does anyone else think Moffat is taking too many liberties?

Daleks were originally bred to be evil, he made it so they're actually peace loving monks trapped inside shitlord shells.

Originally Time lords stayed the same gender but not only did he change that he actually made the second most important Timelord in the show into a gender bender and possibly will do the same for the Doctor.

Originally the Doctor got through his entire history entirely through his own skill set and abilities, Moffat made it so Clara was always there as the one who actually made it all happen.

Originally the Doctor killed every Single man woman and child on Gallifrey, Moffat rewrote this so everything, including Eccleston's incredible portrayal of a post time war Doctor was nullified.

And he canonised 10.5 and added the war Doctor so history would remember him as the writer who "fixed" the 13 incarnation cap.

Everything he does reeks of pompous douchebaggery.

>Originally Time lords stayed the same gender but not only did he change that he actually made the second most important Timelord in the show into a gender bender and possibly will do the same for the Doctor.
This does bug me, but Romana changed SPECIES. It reeks of "progressive for the sake of progressive" though
>Originally the Doctor got through his entire history entirely through his own skill set and abilities, Moffat made it so Clara was always there as the one who actually made it all happen.
This didn't get retconned by the new regeneration cycle?
>Originally the Doctor killed every Single man woman and child on Gallifrey, Moffat rewrote this so everything, including Eccleston's incredible portrayal of a post time war Doctor was nullified.
Yeah, that was pretty bullshit
>And he canonised 10.5 and added the war Doctor so history would remember him as the writer who "fixed" the 13 incarnation cap.
Eh. I'm okay with this. Woulda been worse if it was 9 who did it, because then it DEFINITELY wouldn't make sense he'd "forget"
>Everything he does reeks of pompous douchebaggery.
Yeah, he's definitely got a huge fucking ego

Clara only reverted what the GI did.

and loud.

remember that RTD wanted Doctor Who to be loud to "grab peoples attention"

It's his show and he feels he can do what he likes with it. So no he's not taking liberties but it does reek of pompous douchebaggery.

"I love you", becomes " exterminate", ask yourself why they would bother applying a filter if no dalek ever said I love you anyway. They're all saying I love you under that casing, Bravo Moffat.
>>
>>63296495
The implication was that ANY emotion translates to exterminate, they're still fueled by hatred, it's just that it redirects any other emotion into that hatred.

it's not just females who like those guys.

It's not really his show though, is it? You could argue it's the fans' show, the BBC's show, Sydney Newman's show, Verity Lambert's show, but not Moffat's.

Had he been able to ask Terry Nation whether there is a filter inside the mark 3 travel machines that prohibits whatevers inside from saying "I love you" he'd have been disgusted you'd even asked, daleks don't say "I love you" because they're bred to not love, not because there's a filter stopping them.
