>just be a friend

Best sitcom of the 90s.......
>>

>>

i was 16-20 when it aired. even the girls i knew hated it. the only people i knew who watched it were the manager types in the company i worked at. gen x that got half rich.

In other words, successful people like Friends.

Jeez I totally forgot about that
>>
>>63292260
but the only person that was actually sucessful was ross. and chandler if you don't believe he was a drug dealer. joey was a failed actor, phoebe was a hooker and the other 2 worked at a fucking coffee shop.
>>
>>63293332
Wasn't Monica a chef after awhile?

Rachel was a professional gold digger.
>>
At what point do people think the show jumped the shark?
>>
>>63293510
When Chandler and Monica got together.

Really though, it was never all that great, so "jump the shark" is maybe a little dramatic.
>>
>>63293332
Ross and Chandler always had money, Monica was well off for most of the series as well.

Joey and Rachel started poor but eventually became the richest of all of them probably.

Phoebe probably inherited money from her Grandma and stole Ursulas porn money. She was still the poorest.
>>
do they ever show phoebe's apartment?

>Brother's gf goes to visit her grandmother.
>Her grandmother is a "psychic".
>"Ooooh look at my magic stones they predict something bad will happen booo!"
>She actually believes this.
>Comes back and tells us.
>Eyes roll so far back in to my head I give myself a hernia.
>Explain to her that shit like this is all just make-believe and means nothing.
>"SO WHAT YOU SAY SHE'S A LIAR YOU'RE CALLING HER A LIAR!?!?!"
>"JUST BE A FRIEND!!!"

Jesus what a psycho.
>>
Didn't she act as a surrogate for her brother?
>>
>>63293510
When Rachel's love of designer shit got her a high end job at a fashion company.

She loved that stuff because she was a braindead consumer. She was the ideal customer for fashion brands because she came from money, didn't think twice about spending money and most importantly, looked good carting their shit about with her. That doesn't indicate any particular aptitude for creating or promoting a brand, it just shows that she has poor impulse control.

This is a show for women
>>

I think they tried to retcon it by saying she did something business related at college.

Kinda like how they ignored Rachel and Monica being estranged since the end of High School till their mid-twenties.
>>
>>63292167
>best sitcom of the 90's

i don't think people who watched tv in the 90's think that

and phoebe is widely regarded as the worst character on the show
>>

>I think they tried to retcon it by saying she did something business related at college.
When she was first introduced she couldn't even tie her shoelaces. I find it hard to believe that she ever went to college.

Well she was doing a course via correspondence when the whole Ross's award stuff happened and everyone was late, and rachel goes and starts studying something because she is angry or some such nonsense.

Yea it was a very calculated show, very attempted comfy.
>>
The show peaks with "they don't know we know they know we know" and then it's literally all downhill from there.
>>
>>63292167
I don't remember this happening in Seinfeld...

At the same time had the largest, most fucking amazing apartment I have ever seen in downtown Manhattan on coffee shop waitress wages.

How in the fuck?
>>
>>63293650
She lived in a nice apartment by herself overlooking central park.

Being a masseuse
>>
>>63294385
Didn't Monica's aunt own the apartment?
>>
>>63294108
>dat forced fucking Joey/Rachel/Ross love triangle
>dat total flanderisation of Joey to the point where he's barely a functioning human being
>dat learning french episode
>dat horrible personality change of Phoebe as she fucks over David and doesn't give a shit
>dat horrible characterisation of Monica and Chandler
>dat total selfishness from Rachel as she plans to take Emma away from her father

The show is downhill from around season 5 but dies around season 8.

nice.

So what was the point of Rachel going to England and totally fucking over Ross's wedding and ruining his life only to try really hard to not get back together with him?

Was her plan just fuck over his life real hard? Because he would have been fine for the rest of his days, no weird multiple divorces, no extra estranged children, losing job dating students, etc.
>>
>>63294453
Possibly, I think all of them except maybe Joey came from money.

Monica/Ross grew up in upper middle class lifestyle, Rachel was clearly from a rich family, Chandler's parents had a butler, Phoebe's family had beach houses...
>>
>>63294588
To be fair emily was pretty controlling.
It was essentially "lol women so silly and emotional".
Phoebe ironically seemed to be the only one who approached life with some actual rational thought.
>>
>>63294659
But phoebe also grew up an orphan on the streets, stealing and shit.
>>
>>63294662
She was pretty normal in not wanting his creepy ex, who showed up to fuck over the wedding to be out of the picture.

It is a little weird for someone to still hang out with their ex each and every day like that anyway. Especially one that they creeped after for little over 10 years.
>>
>>63295158
True.
But then again she did immediately demand that he never see rachel again when she knew nothing more than that they had at one time been together.
Which is fairly irrational and selfish when you take into account that she was a core member of ross' closest circle of friends.
