I think this might be my favourite 'emotional' episode of The Simpsons; it's understated, and I like the theme of unrealized aspirations. Plus, Marge is a much more sympathetic vehicle for a sombre episode than Lisa, and the episode still has a lot of good jokes with Mr Burns/Krusty/the Country Club.
What other TV episodes do you think deserve more recognition?

It's an alright episode. I agree with the points you make but it's not a very funny episode. I think the company picnic one does what this did but with more humor.

Homer's Phobia is always a good one, I never see it in any top tens though.

And look, there's Magnetbox and Sorny!
The Simpsons had really great episodes back in the days. Actually one of the few shows I bought on DVD. Gotta rewatch some episodes soon.
I loved the episode, in which Homer thought Bart was gay and the one with the "Do it for her"- thing. The latter is mentioned by almost everyone, but I kinda cried when it aired, because I was really touched (and I'm a little, emotionally crippled girl deep inside).
>>63284712
True, it is nowhere near being the show's funniest episode but I find it the most poignant. A lot of the feels-based Simpsons episodes are quite sentimental and grand with their emotional gestures, but this one taps into a bittersweet everyday wish for things to be a little bit better, which is more unique.
Or maybe I just love that theme because, pic related, I love Betty Draper and Pete Campbell episodes of Mad Men for very similar reasons.

Simpsons had some very touchy moments. I still shed a tear now and then with this episodeespecially when I'm high

I prefer the emotional episodes of the Simpsons. I really like one but would say Marge Be Not Proud was even better.
It's in my top 5 for Classic Simpsons. Taps into fear we all share of not belonging or being inadequate.
Underrated for the way it portrays rich people not as villains but petty norms just with better accoutrements.
Homer is adept at bowling and equally adept at golf. the former makes him a Joe six pack while the latter is a status symbol. Either way it's just knocking around balls.

Seriously underrated episode.

It's a terrible episode. Marge transforms from doting, overbearing mother to uncaring cunt and back in the span of a few days.

People on the autistic spectrum shouldn't attempt to analyze the behavior of characters in entertainment media.
>>63286408
Sorry you can't see it's a stupid premise. Bart makes an adolescent fuckup (shoplifting) and Marge emotionally disowns him.

Honestly, Burns' Heir is hands down the best episode of the Simpsons ever aired. There's at least one great joke in literally every scene but I've never seen it listed in any best of lists. Here's some highlights:
- Homer as a chimney sweep
- "All this time I was smoking harmless tobacco." - Wavy Gravy
- 'Let's All Go to the Lobby' scene
- Bart's Mr. Kurns speech
- Homer adopts Moleman
- Fake Simpson family
- "I'm... a good... work... guy..."

I love that episode because O can relate to it so much. Got caught stealing sigarettes when I was 13, my mom literally cried, couldn't look me in the eye anymore and didn't talk to me for weeks. I still feal like shit about it to this day.
General rule I've found.
If its on /tv/ the episode is 2deep4u trash a late teenager would enjoy.
This postulate has never led me wrong.

Shouting doesn't always create passion but Edie Falco in those fights has some of the most raw displays of fury I've ever seen. Phenomenal stuff.

>A BLOODY END FOR HOMER SIMPSON!
>>63283401
Pretty shitty episode that diverges from Marge's character too drastically. It's similar to Marge Be Not Proud in the sense that it's a development of Marge through the reduction of her caring and comforting sensibilities. She becomes a sitcom mom instead of a cartoon mom, the parenting opposite of Homer. The Itchy and Scratchy movie is a great example of giving someone a value system without compromising our expectations of a character. Marge wants homer to take a larger role as a father when it comes to discipline, it isn't an excuse to devalue her in our eyes based on her sudden lack of interest in her son ( Marge Be Not Proud) or her disgust in here family ( Class Struggle in Springfield )
