Has /tv/ bought any Star Wars related magazines or merchandise?
Remember back when Time didn't do sponsored articles?
I'm not sure that I do, but I'm pretty sure that they chose their own articles at one point

This is the state our culture has come to.
>>63281505
... it was always like this. don't you remember collecting star wars cereal boxes as a kid? or buying cereal just for the star wars toy inside?
>>63281494
I wanted R2 to stick out his probe and knock that stupid little hatbot off his soccer ball so badly.
>>63281429
Still don't get what that staff is about. In a world where laser pistols are readily available, a staff seems a pretty stupid choice for self defense.
Lightsabres are the obvious exception, but that thing just looks like a metal rod.
>>63281543
No, I never collected cereal boxes.
I did get toys, but literally just whatever my parents would get me, no deliberate organization at all. They didn't try to sell a 7-part series of Shreddies boxes to a bunch of 30-somethings based on a property that hasn't even come out yet.
>>63281505
I was born in 83 and this was always the norm growing up. I don't know how you can say it was ever any different. Movies with a big cultural impact were always exploited to the core, especially those aimed at children. Hell, most of the cartoons I watched growing up only existed to sell toys.
>>63281596
personally i just bought the chewie one cause i thought it looked cool, don't care about the rest. but the manchildren have definitely awoken. vid related, 5'3" manlet virgin who's basically giving disney all his money
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDm0EGNhWIo
he's made like 10 videos like this with different lightsabers. and he's only one of many thousands of manchildren
>>63281407
Nope. The designs of the ships aren't as good as the prequels. They look like copies of the original trilogy. The designs don't even match the quality of concepts I've seen from EU books. BB8 looks neat, but thats about it. Also I haven't seen any neat aliens I want to buy.
>>63281407
>le epic peakaboo football droid
>>63281545
Why you hate her?
>>63281596
Yeah I'm pretty sure they did. Don't act like this hasn't been done before. The only reason Star Wars is even being remade is to cash in on merchandise.
>>63281691
Because I know it's going to be a sight gag at some point in the movie, and I hate it already.
Why do I hate this so much, /tv/? What have you done to me? Why can't I ever be excited about anything anymore?
>Consider the prospect: twenty more years of Star Wars movies, toys, comic books, weapons programs, video games, trailers, promos--and tons of New Age jive to link it all up with Homer, the Old Testament, Virgil, the Koran, Arthurian legend, Joseph Campbell, and even Walt Disney. What was once at best an OK diversion for ten-year-old boys has become a cornerstone of Western civilization.

No. I don't understand how they are selling toys for a movie that isn't even out yet.
No fuck off cunt

>Lev Grossman
>>63281407
I held onto pic related for way too long. I think it's kinda funny now.
I bought Aftermath and then regretted it horribly.
The lightsabers are like $225. Fuck that
No but I once won a huge box of Star Wars merchandise when episode 3 came out.
>>63281407
No, I'm sick and tired of all this marketing for a movie that might not even be good
>>63281663
I'm 6'2" and a virgin and I bought 3 of those light sabers.
>>63281582
I'm guessing it's just a hiking stick while she scavenges. I don't think I've seen it in any Starkiller base footage.
>>63283541
They're $120 of you buy them at the right time.
>>63283886
>smalltown Indiana
My fucking nigga.

>>63281407
Why did they turn R2D2 into a ball? It looks stupid. I mean it's the future ffs and everyone is flying around in space, not to mention that the Jedi essentially use magic.
Make the little fucker hover.
>>63284475
it's a soccer ball robot
>>63284475
because the toy is extremely simple in shape and easy to mass produce.

I think it's a very Star Wars-looking design and a cool movie prop to boot.
Whether it flies or not will probably come down to the sound design like R2.
>>63284930
I'm not saying don't make it look simple and i don't really care that it's a 'sphere' per se. It's just the fact that this complete chassis overhaul has resulted in nothing new - it still rolls around. I would have thought the next technological evolution of the R2D2 unit would have been to make it fly around.
>>63281900
Because manchildren want their toys before everyone else
all the toys have sold thousands
>>63281582
It probably shoots lasers.
>>63284930
>easy to mass-produce
>requires gyroscopic magnets to even stand upright
The fuck am I reading?
>>63285084
top probably pops off and flys around.
>>63281407
>Has /tv/ bought any Star Wars related magazines or merchandise?
Why would you support a movie that's not even out yet?
Jesus Christ this is nuts.
It's like people don't even care if it's shit they'll buy the merch and shill for it regardless.
>>63285084
tech autism has no real place in movie design, I'm afraid.
being poor teaches you a life lesson.
i'll never have the impulse to buy merch again.
>>63281407
Yes, as much as I'm ashamed to admit it.
>>63285116
I don't think every version of the robot they're selling is fully functional, mr genius.
>>63285127
Because I like the costumes and set design
>>63281407
Bought lego Darth Vador.
>>63281494
If we just get football working.. because football is a funnier character than we've ever had before.. Football is the key to all this.
Recently? No, I haven't bought anything.
I was going to get one of those lightless lightsabers forcosplaypurposes, but they fucked up the bottom, they fucked up the blade relase, and they don't have belt clips anymore.
So they're garbage now. It's a shame, I really wanted a green blade.
>>63285163
Who said anything about "fully functional"? You're fabricating arguments at this point, retard.

Was gonna buy that new Boba Fett model kit but didn't feel like shelling out the money and I'm apprehensive about having to do the battle damage, since it comes out clean.
