Because of his lines, his motivation, and his way of dealing with things so far from trailer and toys, hes not just an evil stereotype that wants to rule the world, he is religious in his beliefs and will measure no limits to finish what he thinks Vader started, he is the character that will have the best, if not the only plausible evolution on this trilogy. By the way, i do think that JJ missed the point of the series thought: Rey is the protagonist and many girls will look up to her as a model, thats cool and all...but the bulk of star wars fanbase is men and all men want to relate to the main protagonist, Or antagonist for that matter. I just hope he realizes that in time for episode VIII and diminishs her role and put Kylo ren up.
