Nah Rowling said there was 1000 students at Hogwarts. 1000/4/7 should make an average of about 35 per year per house. There are only 8 kids in Harrys class mentioned which is way too little in the context of the story. The classes wouldn't feel as big with just 8 people, getting into the quidditch team wouldn't be a fucking feat if 1/8 did it and there is no way there would be people Harry didnt recognize if there was just 200-250 students at the school.
It's likely there are atleast two dorms but we just got to know the people from harry's.

Yeah anon but Rowling has lost the fucking plot, if she meant there to be four times as many students at the school she should have mentioned some of them at least once, but she didn't and there are clearly 40 people in Harry's year, ten in each house. If she just forgot to mention them then she is an even shittier writer than her harshest critics suspect, and I enjoyed the books very much. There's no fucking way 250 people would fit in the common room for one thing or 1000 people on one train. She's just trying to stay relevant and make up for the glaring deficiencies that are apparent once the glow of comfiness has faded.
